It saddens me that more than half of my students do not have access to technology at home. In today’s generation, everything is generated through technology. I am worried that my students will not be able to take full advantage of all the greatness technology has to offer. There are many standards that the students could master by using iPads. For example, there are many applications available to download to enhance mathematics facts (e.g. multiplication and division facts). Also, there is unlimited access to eBooks and articles for students to read. My students' interests are wide ranged. If they find a text that engages them, they will want to read and practice the skills and strategies taught in class. In addition, my students do not have much access to enhance their writing. When we were drafting our narrative writing piece, the students could not search for mentor texts, enhanced vocabulary, and spelling and mechanics. We are currently starting an informational unit, which requires my students to research about a topic of their choice. Due to the limited technology in school and at home, it is challenging for my students to brainstorm and write a draft. To assess my students' understanding and learning, there are various forms of assessment I could use. From this, I could plan my next lessons to challenge and support my students. With your help, my third graders will gain knowledge of academics and technology!
