My kids love to paint! Most do not have the opportunity to paint at home. Their faces light up with excitement when they come down the hallway and see me holding the paint shirts. I would like to incorporate more painting lessons this year. Painting helps with fine motor skills and developing good craftsmanship skills. It also unleashes the kids’ unique art styles and imaginations. We like to work with tempera, acrylic and watercolor paints when we can. Unfortunately, my paint supplies are limited and my brushes are falling apart. One of my favorite projects to do with paint are self-portraits. For example, fourth grade will do a really neat Favism Self-Portrait project. They can express themselves using bright colors and brush strokes. The new sealable paint containers will help keep the paint colors separate and usable for multiple days. This will save me more paint in the long run. Also, Kindergartners will do a mixed media self-portrait. They will first draw and color a portrait of themselves using crayon and use watercolor to paint the backgrounds. The end results will be beautiful. Liquid watercolor is more vibrant, economical, easy to use, and lasts longer when in sealable containers. New brushes will be a great addition to our room for all of our painting projects. When students don't have to worry about their paint brush falling apart while using it, they can focus more on their artwork.
