I teach 8th grade Biology and Jr/Sr Biotechnology to accelerated students in a selective enrollment school in a large metropolitan area. While my students are very bright academically, most of them qualify for free or reduced lunch and have a variety of living situations. Some of my students travel from great distances throughout the city to attend our school, so they can take advantage of a more rigorous curriculum then their local neighborhood school might offer. Simply put, my students are not satisfied with their neighborhood school - they want to push themselves further and compete with other academically gifted students, even if it means working harder then they've ever worked before.
