Have you ever sat in a meeting for longer than two hours, in the same chair? It gets tiring doesn't it? Imagine children being expected to do the same thing at school! In my First Grade class, we do not leave our room from 8 AM until 12 PM, due to our schedule of classes. As a result, I have found that students are getting agitated in their seats. Flexible positions will allow students to choose what type of seating they would like to use. Students will be given a wide variety of seating options that include: kid-sized director chairs, short metal stools, rubber cushions, carpet circles and exercise ball chairs with feet. By giving students a choice, they will take ownership and be more apt to work productively. Instead of wiggling around in a chair, students will be able to stand, sit or rock with their choice of seating. The products that I have selected will give students the opportunity to move around the room and work in a setting that is best suitable for them. A sense of independence will be created, for students will feel that this is "their space" within the classroom. Seeing students thrive in their bubble of learning keeps the environment engaging!
