  • Reading Aloud Interactively!

    Funded Oct 7, 2011

Thank you for the generosity that you have shown my classroom. Because of your gifts my students have been exposed to wonderful works of literature. The read aloud is a special time in an elementary classroom where students are captivated by the story and swept to a different time and place. The books that you gave to my classroom are specially selected for the ability of that text to teach a specific comprehension strategy. Reading aloud stories is one of my favorite things to do and I know my students enjoy it too. Thank you for adding to my classroom's read aloud collection!”

  • Putting The Tools In Their Hands

    Funded Sep 23, 2011

Thank you for the generosity you have shown my classroom. Giving tools to my students is a huge part of allowing them to be independent. By putting out a stapler, a hole punch, and other tools, my students are not reliant on me to do these simple tasks for them. It also makes my life much easier, because they do not bug me to staple things for them!

I have seen the benefit of giving my students these tools in a situation that occurred just yesterday. Rather than running to me when the pages fell out of a well loved book, two of my students worked together to tape the pages back in the book. The job might not have been done as perfectly as if an adult had done them, but the job was done! Thank you for putting these tools in my students' hands!”

  • Daily Computers With The Daily Five--Part 2

    Funded Jun 20, 2011

Thank you for the generosity you have shown my classroom. Your gifts

have made it possible for each of my students to go on the computer

everyday. In addition to creating digital projects students have been

writing blogs, reading books online and listening to stories. My second

graders are considered to be part of a generation of digital natives.

However, many of my students do not have computers at home. This makes

it even more important for my students to be exposed to digital tools

and strategies at school. Thanks to you each of my students gets to use

the computer everyday and learn valuable tools and strategies that

benefit them today and prepare them for the future! Thank you!”

  • Portfolio Power!

    Funded Jun 14, 2011

Thank you for donating the materials for my students to create portfolios this year. Each Friday we have looked over all of the work we completed that week. Students select a piece that is meaningful for them in some way. After students write about the piece they selected and the reasons why, they put the item in their portfolio.

Even so early in the school year, students are proud of the work they've put into their portfolios. These portfolios will serve as an excellent tool throughout the year to note accomplishments and measure growth. Thank you for making portfolios possible in my classroom this year!”

  • Write On! Whiteboards!

    Funded May 3, 2011

Thank you for generously supporting my classroom. Having enough whiteboards for each student makes it possible to use the boards frequently. In math, students answer problems and I can easily check everyone's answers. For word work, students have been writing their words in many different ways on the whiteboards.

Making sure that each of my 28 students receive the best possible education is no easy task. Having the materials I need helps me to provide each of my students with what the need and deserve. Thank you for making this possible!”

  • Summer Learning, Had Me a Blast!

    Funded Apr 16, 2011

On Friday I got to give each of my students TWO brand new books! The excitement was palpable with students jumping up and down and squealing with joy. My students started to read right away, shocked that these new books really were for them to take home. With wide eyes students turned to me and said, "I love this book." The joy of receiving a new book, pulling back the cover and taking a deep breath of that new book smell is a treat I have enjoyed often. Your generosity made that same sensation happen for my students. Their home libraries have grown and this summer they will curl up in their bed on a hot summer night and enjoy a favorite book.

    THANK YOU!!”

  • Stand Up Tall

    Funded Mar 8, 2011

Thank you for the generosity that you showed my classroom. The pocket chart stand and pocket charts have been a great addition to our room. Before I was not able to utilize pocket charts as hanging them on cabinet doors and the radiator was not safe! Now my students have easy access to the charts and are able to use them throughout the day. The blends pocket chart has helped many of my students solidify their knowledge of the sounds in words. The food pyramid chart has helped us learn about the different food groups and in which group different food items belong. Thank you for helping make my classroom an engaging place!”

  • Successful Second Grade Scientists

    Funded Jan 10, 2011

My students see themselves as meteorologists, biologists and botanists. They understand magnetic force and know the power a magnet can have. They can identify simple machines and find them in the world around them. Science is an activity all of my students love thanks to your generosity! A love for science begins at an early age. With the incredible activities you gave my students they know that they are scientists. Your support has helped to make my classroom an engaging place where students are interested in what we are learning--thank you!!”

  • From Their Point of View

    Funded Mar 2, 2011

Thank you for your generous gifts to my classrooms. The pictures I posted were taken on a recent field trip to a nature museum. My students took these pictures both to remember their trip, but also for a classmate who was unable to attend. Having cameras that my students can use allows them to capture their world (rather than me capturing them). Throughout the year we do many memorable activities and these cameras give my students the opportunity to remember these events. Thank you for putting amazing devices into the hands of my students and empowering them to be photographers!”
