Spelling, Word Games and Prizes, Oh My!
Funded Aug 3, 2023The students are really enjoying all of their materials! This order included spelling games like Scrabble Jr and Spelligator as well as art and prizes. The small gifts were included in birthday bags. I had five students with birthdays in August! Wow! They loved their gifts.
But the students were also excited about the spelling games. They played Spelligator with their peers and learned how crossword puzzles work with Scrabble. They were so excited making words and getting points as they played in their small groups.
Finally, we used the thin black markers for art projects. Students could see the difference between drawing and coloring without outlining their pictures and when they used the marker to outline. They could see how the picture really popped and stood out.
Many thanks for your generous donations!”

Ms. Christensen

Funded May 9, 2023As I stated in my proposal, my goal is to help children be active learners. One way is to have whiteboards with dry erase markers where they can draw and write to show work quickly. Whether children are taking their STAR Math tests or responding to an answer in class, those whiteboards help students to solve math problems, unscramble words in our morning word work, and display their answers as a group without having the stress of raising their hand individually and maybe giving a wrong answer. Students love the safety of that and they love these beautiful dry erase markers with color.
Finally, children really enjoy listening to stories online. With a good pair of earbuds, students can listen to stories comfortably. We actually had an opportunity to get headphones this year, but over 60% of the class chose to keep their earbuds. They felt they could listen more clearly and for the girls, earbuds don't interfere with hair accessories. I also bought my students cases for their earbuds and taught them how to wrap them up. You should see how nicely they care for their items.
Later in the year, we will get to use our fraction pieces and I am very excited for that because it is one of the hardest subjects for students to grasp next to perimeter. Thank you for the folders and all that your funds helped to provide.”

Funded May 15, 2022As a classroom teacher there is always a need deep within our hearts to do everything we can to support our students in learning and growing - socially, academically and emotionally. School districts only consider providing academic support in the form of books and paper but do not always consider the things that make a classroom a home away from home. It is because of your amazing support that I can add the supplies I see are necessary to make our classroom the enriching environment we need.
With the current donations you have provided, I am happy to share that my students have more than enough earbuds to keep them listening comfortably to their reading stories on Epic!, math lessons on Dreambox and Zearn, and language lessons on Lexia. The students love picking their color for the earbuds and when these get damaged, I have plenty more to give out.
Finally it is very exciting to showcase the new stools we received for our center activity tables. For the last few years I didn't have enough for all of our centers and I didn't have enough chairs either. Now we have plenty and the students enjoy not moving their personal chairs just to sit.
Thank you again for your generosity.”

Ms. Christensen
Back to School Shopping for Scholars
Funded Sep 23, 2021Thank you so much for the donations of the earbuds, dry erase markers and the math cubes. We have already begun to use the markers and earbuds. The children really enjoy using them. Here are some of the things they wrote:
How they felt when they saw the box with all of the new supplies: (children wrote these themselves, please excuse the errors.)
1) I felt kinda happy.yes i was happy to recieve them.
2) I was really happy to receive the earbuds and the markers like so excited!!!!!
3) yes I was so happy luckily it did not dry so fast it already been 3 months and I still
love them
4) I felt AWESOME they are amazing QUALITY
5) yes i was so thankful thank you
6) when I saw that we were getting new markers and earbuds I was excited and happy because we were getting better markers and getting new earbuds.
Most of them loved the earbuds. They use them during math and language arts rotations. Here are a few of their comments.
1) I use the earbuds for Homework,Epic reading and Prodigy.
2) In the morning i use them for Dream box so i like having them so i can hear clear.
3) I use our headphones when we read or do Lexia or something with loud sounds and yes I do like having them.
4) I like the earbuds because i can hear now.
When the students and I received the markers we were truly overjoyed. All of the other brands dry out so easily and don't last. These markers do last. Here's how we use our markers:
1) When we do math problems or when we take notes like studying Asia. Yes they are good quality markers.
2) When we use the dry erase markers we use them to write on our whiteboards or math mat. the subject we use them for is usually for math but we can also use them for games and yes they are good quality.
3)When we do our multiplication problems. They are good markers so far.
4)I love them a lot are you when I first use them they were so smooth to use they already been 3 months
Thank you again for helping to make a huge impact on our classrooms!
I was surprised.”

Funded Oct 16, 2019My students were thrilled to see the math and science kits that were provided for their learning. They prefer to learn by doing and the measurement and capacity kits are perfect for that. I was more than thrilled to use the laminator to make the game sheets for math and reading rotation time more durable. In addition, students were able to use the dry erase markers on those laminated game cards to play in partners.
And there is no way to describe the excitement of receiving the colored stools for our small table group. The students love them!! Now there are plenty of seats for them and they aren't squished together using regular sized chairs.
Unfortunately, many of the math and science supplies were intended for 3rd trimester, Covid-19 caused a shut down of the in-person classroom in March and the students were not able to use the materials. With this pandemic in place, we are looking at starting the new school year with distance learning as well. It's disappointing because I cannot get photos of the children using the materials to upload. But as soon as we are back in the classroom again, I would love to upload the photos of the children using the materials. Thank you donors again for your generosity.”

Funded Sep 1, 2019There is nothing like seeing the wonder and awe on a child's face when new books or hands-on activities are introduced to them. In some ways, it's almost like Christmas! Receiving our wonderful science books on the planets and kindness books was like that. Students wanted to be first to read them and you could hear them say, "I call Jupiter first!" And then they all chipped in with their favorite planet book.
When it comes to space, children, and clearly adults as well, have such curiosity about what's "out there." Reading and researching about the planets, learning how some are the same and different, expanded their minds and led to some active discussions about which planet they would love to visit.
We are just beginning to use our maps books for our study of the United States and it's geographic elements. I'm excited to see that so many students already know a bit about reading a map (is it from looking at Google maps?) and love sharing the states they have visited. They can't wait to make their own maps to help others discover hidden clues along their treasure map.
Thank you so much for your generous donations and for allowing me to encourage curiosity and wonder in the minds of my students!”

Ms. Christensen
