  • Easels for Learning Ease!

    Funded Feb 14, 2021

The whiteboards that your generosity purchased for our classroom have been a wonderful addition to our class. Our classroom still has a traditional chalkboard. As you know, chalk dust can be an irritant to those students who suffer from asthma or who are affected by allergies. Additionally, chalk is getting harder and harder to find.

These whiteboards help my visual learners see models up close in varying colors. They also help us to collaborate and share group knowledge. It's quite interactive!

There was a sweet moment when we opened the boxes together and one student rejoiced, "Wow! Strangers actually bought this for us? That's so nice!" You helped me teach my third graders a different lesson. It was a lesson about a sense of community and the kindness of strangers.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Smart

  • iOChow Document Camera - iLearn Remotely!

    Funded Nov 10, 2020

The document camera that your generous donation purchased has helped lessen the distance between students and teacher that remote learning can often create. My students can now see me work live and in real time. I'm able to share texts for read alouds, analyze artwork, investigate objects for science, and participate in shared writing activities. It is the one teaching tool that I use every single day besides my laptop. My ENL students are thriving with the use of visual aids which are now possible.

Before I received this document camera, I would attempt to teach by propping up a dry erase board on a wall. Needless to say, this was an epic fail! Thanks to you, my students have been given a real chance to succeed...remotely.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Smart

  • Let's Explore Our Environments With Technology and Hands-On Fun!

    Funded Dec 31, 2016

Thank you so much for funding my project "Let's Explore Our Environments With Technology and Hands-On Fun!" Hands on Science Tuesdays haven't been the same since we received our packages. It's so exciting to have hands-on science activities and technology to learn about environmental science and ecosystems.

Right now we are in crunch mode preparing for upcoming fourth grade exams. We will be much more prepared because of your generosity. My students are extremely engaged investigating various ecosystems through the use of the iPads. The use of technology has greatly improved my whole and small group instruction. I can now project things through the use of the SMARTBoard for the whole class to see. In addition, small group is enhanced, particularly for those students who might find it difficult to focus. My kinesthetic learners love using the green kit which provides really challenging hands on activities that stimulate many questions.

Once again, thank you for your benevolence and generosity. You have really made a difference in the lives of my students as their connection is strengthened to the world around them.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Smart

  • Apple iPad for The "Apples of My Eyes"

    Funded May 6, 2014

We were so excited to hear that News Corp had generously funded the teacher projects for DonorsChoose. When the box arrived the children were besides themselves as we unpacked our new iPad. I immediately downloaded language and math skills educational apps and games to support my lessons and "learning challenges." This technology is a powerful too for me to differentiate my instruction to address and meet the needs of each student and, insure that they achieve, succeed and move up to fifth grade.

From the bottom of my heart thank you for your support of my teaching!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Smart

  • Hot Dots Make Reading Rock!

    Funded Mar 28, 2014

There was such excitement when the HUGE box of Hot Dots arrived to our classroom. These will give my students an innovative and exciting way to learn as they reinforce and self-check to prepare for 5th grade state ELA and Math tests. More importantly, they provide tools for the children to develop independent learning skills which will help them focus and take ownership for their education. It doesn't hurt that they are tons of fun, too!

Thank you for caring about my students' education and my teaching initiatives. Your generosity is greatly appreciated by our classroom community of learners.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Smart
