  • All the Way Up...to Second Grade!

    Funded Jun 22, 2022

    Hello!

It is almost time to return to work and I am happy to report that all items have been received and will be stored until needed when school begins in three weeks.

These items seem totally random and thrown together but I want you to understand how needed they are! When we are in school for almost nine hours, having essentials is simply sensical and helps us be comfortable while away from home! The baby wipes clean food-encrusted faces, dustpans clean up crumbs from snacks and lunch, badge clips let everyone know who the group leaders are, reading phonics reduce the voice noise in the classroom during the day, and magnetic hooks hang up classroom decor.

Thank you again for your help! XO”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Richardson, Ed.S.

  • Planting With Love (Part #3)

    Funded Jul 12, 2022

    How are you?

I want to thank you again for donating Science activities to my classroom!

While we have not had the pleasure of utilizing them just yet (the plant cycle and force are studied in late Winter, and early Spring), I wanted to show you what we received so that you know that everything has arrived and will be organized on my Science bookshelf.

Science is a big deal to me; I have always asked "why?" and liked going on adventures--I want my kids to do the same and actually find out the answers.

Having a plethora of Science items will certainly help me help them.

Again, thank you very much to you, my donors.

    We appreciate your kindness! XO”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Richardson, Ed.S.

  • Planting With Love (Part #1)

    Funded Apr 7, 2022

Let me tell you all again: YOU. ARE. AWESOME.

Thank you SO MUCH for the planting supplies!

The kids had sooo much fun planting their seeds, decorating their plant pots, and watching them grow.

The plant light worked excellently and helped the plants grow faster in our frosted window classroom; I sent them on home with the kids at the beginning of June to show them off. I felt at that time my kids could handle their plants on their own--the students have surpassed the teacher, LOL!

Anyway, I am so glad that I was able to have this experience with the kids-you made it happen XO.”

    Ms. Richardson, Ed.S.

  • Let Us Clean & Organize!

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

I want to thank you all for the MUCH NEEDED donation of a Shark quick-vac, latex gloves, batteries, and command strips. They have ALL been put to use this school year and I am so glad that I had them available to keep my room as clean as possible!

My kids love seeing me put on the pink latex gloves to clean or hand out treats and snacks. Pink is my favorite color, so it has become THEIR favorite color, too LOL!

They think they "are grown" when I give them opportunities to vacuum the carpets with the Shark vac. What they do NOT know (nor will I ever tell them) is that they are doing their teacher a favor and she will ALWAYS give them the "privilege" of vacuuming the rugs, HA.

    I appreciate you all--have a great summer!

    XO”

  • "[The Five] Sense[S] and Sensibility": SEL and Art Materials, Please!

    Funded Dec 1, 2021

I REALLY appreciate your art donations to my classroom!

As you can see, the materials donated have been put to use multiple times, and the kids have made many colorful creations.

Of course, they really loved the foam paint and sensory matter the most :-)!

They liked squeezing both products through their fingers and being "messy".

This was part of my intentions with this grant proposal--I wanted my kids to find peace through their creativity and art.

Besides putting paint on others or the furniture, I wanted them to have full reign to be themselves in order to calm their little hearts and minds during this pandemic.

I think I accomplished my goal and it was with YOUR assistance--I thank you! XO

Have an awesome Mothers' Day next week.”

  • Planting, Creating, & Tidying With Love!

    Funded Mar 23, 2022

Thank you for alllllll of the cleaning supplies you donated!

As you can see, we use them daily, and THOROUGHLY; I have passed my cleaning habits onto my kids and they have become very good about cleaning up their spaces after activities.

What you see in the pictures are us cleaning up after lunch. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, we have to eat in our room now to decrease movement and increase containment and good contact tracing should anyone catch COVID-19. This has put a lot of pressure on us teachers because we have to one, make sure the classroom is prepared and cleaned quickly after lessons and small groups every day before lunch; two, we have to constantly be vigilant about the cleanup and of the kids spilling food and milk that may attract insects and create stinky odors!

Because this is First Grade, you know that this happens a lot, so I basically cannot eat lunch when THEY eat lunch. :-(

I say all of that to say, that the items you have provided are being used and are very much appreciated.

I thank you again--have a great Mothers' Day next weekend! XO”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Richardson, Ed.S.

  • Planting With Love (Part #2)

    Funded Apr 8, 2022

We had SO MUCH FUN on Wednesday!

The kids had no idea that I was planning on doing this activity until about five minutes before setting everything out.

Of course, they were initially confused when I said that one "can eat soil"; Maurice asked, "how can you make soil 'eat-able'?'". When I showed them how, they all cheered!

As you can see from the pictures, the activity was fun and honestly, quite easy to accomplish and then clean up, surprisingly. I think I shocked him so they were kind of calm about the whole thing, HA. They were all smiles at the end of the day and that is what matters to me--that, and they had to wait until they GOT HOME to eat their treats (lo siento, parents).

I want to thank you all again for making this project happen for us--it was a fun, EDIBLE learning experience! XO”

  • A Few Things to Make My Classroom Merry & Bright!

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

    How are you?

I want to thank you again for donating to my proposal. With COVID-19 still influencing some parts of my career and how I am able to teach my kids, I wanted these items to make the classroom look and feel more festive and fun to keep up everyone's energy.

Unfortunately, some of the items were unavailable when the order was placed, so I had to find replacements for a couple of them.

In the pictures, you see my students working on I-Ready and Reflex Math on their individual laptops during computer time. One student at each table is wearing one of the numbered tags from the order as group leader; however, they are difficult to see in the pictures.

On the ceiling and the walls, you see the projector and disco lights flashing. I have cello music playing, as well. The kids noticeably calm down in this setting--I should have recorded a video for the full effect!

Anyway, thanks again for everything XO.”

  • Roses in the Safari: Items to Decorate My Fab Classroom!

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

I want to thank you again for donating decor and decorating materials for classroom this year.

Because this school year saw a return to the brick and mortar building from virtual learning and is the first year my kids set foot in the actual building, I wanted to make the experience cozy, vivid, and inviting.

I wanted to turn my classroom into a safari with leaves, ivy vines (shout out to my sorority, AKA), and roses. I want my kids to feel like they're having an experience when they enter everyday! I think I did a decent job and it's thanks to you.”

Hola! I am Miss Richardson and I am Third Grade teacher and Kindergarten Science curriculum writer in Richmond, Virginia. I teach in a small-ish school located in a cozy corner of the Northside of Richmond. Yes, we are a Title I school, and yes, some of my kids are not as fortunate as others. However, they are sweet and precocious, and I love being their "school mom" (THEIR words, LOL)! DonorsChoose allows me to give my kids world-class experiences despite whatever is happening at home. I have been teaching for 17 years. Along with Third, I have taught Kindergarten, First, and Second grades. I thank you for choosing my classroom to finance!
