'' Endurance is not just the ability to bear a hard thing, but to turn it into glory.''- William Barclay. This quote kept me anchored as a teacher, living through hurricane Irma, and now dealing with picking up the pieces and moving forward. We had no light and the district made the decision to close all public schools for a week. Many of my students were impacted because they live in the neighborhood, and even though school will reopen on September 18th, I know many of my students will be coming to school without having light at home or food to eat. Yesterday, I had the opportunity of distributing care packages and food for the families living in the community where majority of my students live. Many of my students recognized me, but what stood out for me is when one of them embarrassingly came up to me, asking if he could have some ripe bananas for his grandmother. I was moved to tears, because even though I knew many of the students came from poor families, if is wasn't for hurricane Irma I never would have been blessed with the privilege of serving not only my students but also other members of their family. I need my students to experience the joy of technolgy when they enter my classroom. I need to give them the opportunity to forget about thier family issues and personal problems for 90 minutes. I wish I could have gotten 30 wonder robot kits and Fire HD tablets so that each student could have one, and get lost in the creative process of building something from scratch. However, whatever support I receive will be a blessing. Thanks for all you do! #CSTA
