iPad Cases for Science Class
Funded Oct 7, 2019These iPads cases have improved the quality of instruction in my classroom. Our school has desktop computers that are very old and extremely slow. Sometimes work that students try to save is lost due to the length of time it takes to even save a student project. I teach science to seventh graders and an elective Green Studies course to 8th graders. My teaching style includes project based learning which requires technology. We are working with Fairchild Botanic Garden and NASA Kennedy Space Center by conducting research about growing plants in space. These iPad cases have allowed us to collect data, create graphs, design presentations and complete background research all while protecting our iPads. What is most exciting to my students about these iPad cases are that they allow us to take the technology with us in the field as we conduct research. We appreciate your generosity!”

iPads In Science Class!
Funded Oct 4, 2019These iPads have improved the quality of instruction in my classroom. Our school has desktop computers that are very old and extremely slow. Sometimes work that students try to save is lost due to the length of time it takes to even save a student project. I teach science to seventh graders and an elective Green Studies course to 8th graders. My teaching style includes project based learning which requires technology. These iPads have allowed us to collect data, create graphs, design presentations and complete background research.
What is most exciting to my students about these iPads are that they allow us to take the technology with us in the field as we conduct research. The iPads are fast, we can install apps, and we have access to all of it without having to be sitting at a desktop computer. Some of my students are extremely "Tech Savvy" and have become leaders in the class. They teach the rest of us how to use the iPads, allowing us to access important features of the iPads. We appreciate your generosity!”

Funded Aug 27, 2019Thank you so much for the donation of Science World magazines. My students look forward to getting them every month. My seventh graders are reading exciting articles and sharing new ideas. They enjoy not only the pictures, but the information about animals, technology, the environment, other cultures, and many more exciting topics. Recently, we were visited by district administrators who were impressed that my students were reading Science World magazines. Thank you for supporting our classroom!”

Literacy and Science with The Martian!
Funded Oct 25, 2018Thank you so much for donating The Martian to our classroom. The students are very excited about becoming "Space Farmers" not unlike the setting of the novel. We are growing peppers and tomatoes in class in our NASA botany lab and we will read the novel together in class. We will compare our challenges with growing food with the ones that the main character faces in the story.
In class, we will read together and take turns reading aloud. The students have the opportunity to pause and ask questions about the content and the vocabulary used.
Several students from my other classes have asked if they can borrow a book when we are finished reading as a class because they would like to read it independently. There is a lot of excitement around this book and growing food.”

Funded Oct 24, 2018My students are using the botany lab to grow plants from seed that can be transplanted into our garden. We are growing edible plants such as carrots, beets, cilantro, pak choi, basil, thyme, and oregano. The students are very excited to see the seeds germinate in the botany lab. They enjoy maintaining the lab by checking the temperature and monitoring the amount of water added.
The students were thrilled when they saw the boxes brought to the classroom. We spent two class periods following the directions and assembling the lab. The experience of building was valuable, and they can really appreciate a job well done!
In the future, we will grow peppers and tomatoes. One student was so excited about the garden, he said "Why would we buy food at the store when we can grow our own?!" The students can't wait until harvest day! Thank you so much for supporting our project. It will continue to make an impact in my class many years to come!”

Funded Aug 22, 2018Thank you very much for the Science World Magazine subscription. My students look forward to the new issues twice each month. The articles are informative and entertaining. We especially love to see the holiday editions like the one we received for Halloween.
Along with each issue, Scholastic provides teacher lesson plans and class assignments that are are aligned with state standards. Many of the assignments require the students to use critical thinking skills and problem solving.
We truly appreciate your generosity and will continue to enjoy reading these for the rest of the school year!”
