  • Building Emotional Resilience and Academic Success

    Funded Oct 17, 2024

We are using the new resources to create a classroom environment that nurtures both academic growth and emotional well-being. For example, during our SEL and Calm Classroom sessions, students use the Feelings Coloring Book and Ninja Life Hacks Activity Book to explore their emotions and practice self-regulation techniques. The Mini Squish Toys and Mesh Stress Balls have become essential tools for stress relief, especially during independent work time, helping students stay calm and focused. Additionally, we recently scholars chose science fair projects inspired by The Complete Handbook of Science Fair Projects. These materials are not just tools; they're opening doors to meaningful, hands-on learning experiences.

When my students first saw the materials, their excitement was palpable. They were immediately drawn to the colorful erasers and squish toys, which have become coveted rewards during lessons. The science handbook sparked a flurry of ideas for projects, and the handwriting workbook encouraged them to improve their skills with enthusiasm. Moving forward, our focus is on continuing to develop their science fair projects, which align with our STEM goals (the science fair is at the end of January) . Students are researching topics, gathering materials, and preparing to present their findings, combining academic skills with creativity and confidence. These resources have truly transformed our classroom into a space of growth, curiosity, and joy.”

  • Jumping to success!

    Funded Feb 8, 2017

Thank you so much for pitching in and helping out with our project. Since receiving the trampolines we added it to out practice routine. Our jumps have improved! We just recently finished our competition season. We traveled to Florida for an International Championship and to Vegas for a Battle Royal. We placed 1st and 2nd at the competitions. We plan to continue using the trampolines for our next competition season as well. This project was a fun way for us to work on jumps! We really appreciate your support.”

  • Science Interactive Notebooks

    Funded Sep 22, 2015

I cannot begin to express my gratitude for your support of our classroom interactive notebook supplies! As a science teacher, I find myself continually purchasing lab and classroom supplies, and not having to purchase the items for the interactive notebooks is a load off of my to do list.

    .

THANK YOU! I have introduced all the students to interactive notebooks and they are THRILLED to have something of their own that they can build throughout the year in science. We use it for notes, labs, creative activities and so much more. It is full of color and information that students can use all year as we prepare for High School. It is amazing to see the students take ownership of their notebooks as they set up their Tables of Contents, design front covers, and pursue discovery.

The students have used the colored pencils to design and decorate their first assignments (the cover of the book), they have saved Fred (and other labs), cut out several templates on colored paper and are using and glue to paste other assignments into their books to keep everything in one place.

The students have thanked me and asked me to thank you.

Thank you again for your support of my students' education. We truly appreciate you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Henry

Robert Frost once said, I am not teacher, I am an awakener. In the past 10 months, I have been able to understand what that truly means. My students have the capability and yearning to achieve great things, requiring only an awakening of their potential. Unfortunately, many societal factors prevent them from ever reaching their potential. With nearly 100% of my students being African American and below the poverty line, we faced numerous challenges this year. In addition to the financial difficulties, many of my students are faced with the unfortunate circumstances of absent fathers, sexual and physical abuse, and inadequate encouragement. With that said, my students exude the characteristics of resilience and courage. Together, we have achieved impressive academic gains and character development, as we try and create an atmosphere of solace in the classroom. This is often difficult, because of the extremely uncomfortable temperature of the class. This can and must be resolved.
