Journeying to the Pridelands Through Musical Theater
Funded Dec 2, 2019We want to thank you for helping us fund our musical program. With your donation, we were able to buy supplies for costumes, makeup, and sets for this year's production of The Lion King. The look on our students' faces when they see the set or their costume for the first time is priceless. Their eyes light up and you can see them transform into their character.
Unfortunately a few days before our show, a tornado rip through Nashville. Although our building and students were safe, widespread power outages caused schools to close and we were forced to postpone our original performance. However, due to Covid-19, school was closed once again and we had to cancel this year's show. We saw how hard the kids have worked and we are sad that they were unable to perform our show this year.
But there is hope. We will be performing The Lion King next year. We will be without some of the original cast, but we are thankful for the opportunity to show our community the hard work and commitment of our students.”

Funded Jan 17, 2018My students were so excited to use these new materials that I got. They love our Osmo, so adding another base to double the fun was the best idea. My EL learners are increasing their reading skills by playing the word games which are perfect for their level. Since my fourth graders study electricity, the Snap Circuits provided the perfect learning opportunity to experiment with electricity in a safe way. It is one of the students' favorite activities. I have always had origami books in the library. So now that I have the paper, the students get to try to make their creations. I have had to order more books! Legos are a big favorite at my school, so adding more Legos have allowed more students the opportunity to build their creations.
I am so thankful that you have helped me lay the foundation for my school's Makerspace, so I am always thinking of ways to make it better. I have already planned to spend some of next years budget to expand the Makerspace into the coding world. Thank you again for supporting my students.”

New Library = New Makerspace
Funded Jul 17, 2017I cannot thank you enough for your donation to our school's new Makerspace to further my students' STEAM learning. My students were successful in using these materials to grow their thinking and collaboration skills.
We used these materials for the first time in conjunction with a story. In the story, some students work together to build a bridge to get off an island. I tasked the students to build a bridge using their material: Legos, Tinkertoys, straw builders, or BrainFlakes. They worked in small groups to build a bridge with their given materials. The students built the bridges with some materials more easily than others, but all were successful in building a bridge that didn't touch the water and stood by itself. With EL students, results are sometimes harder to see right away, but these students could see the fruits of their labor quickly and took pride in completing a task.
We will continue using these materials with literature to give the stories another element. Another plan is for students to be able to use the materials independently as an extension of classroom centers. Thanks you again and I hope we can partner on another project again soon.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Jernigan
