  • Reaching for the Stars

    Funded Dec 27, 2017

Once again, thank you so much for all your support and help getting this project funded. All of the students were so excited when I walked into the classroom with the boxes of their new supplies. The students were all jumping up and down to be the ones to open the boxes. When we opened the boxes I allowed each student to take one item out of the box and they had time to explore it.

The food sorting items were a big hit among all of the students. In science, our last unit was about healthy eating and the food groups. We used the fake food items to create examples of healthy, well balanced meals. We also used the felt My Plate to learn about the different food groups.

The ink for the printer has been very helpful too. It is easier for my students to understand the information on their worksheets when it is in color instead of in black and white.

Our next unit in science is weather. I am very excited to use the weather map that we got to teach the students about weather. We will use it every morning in our morning meeting when we go over the weather of the day.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Isbit

  • Exploring the Imagination

    Funded Jan 19, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous donations! We appreciate it more than we can express.

We are using the new resources in several ways. In our enrichment cluster, do it yourself, we have made a pencil case, mailbox, and basket using the precut material. This projects are perfect for my students who are unable to cut. They are able to express themselves through art by just gluing, and coloring. We are using the pompoms and crayons to decorate many of the projects we have created.

The students were very excited when they first saw the material. They kept asking me what was inside the boxes! As they were taking the materials out they kept spewing out ideas on how they were going to use them. Some of the students were talking about different ways they could use the materials to create do it yourself projects.

Once we are done with the enrichment cluster for the year we go to an enrichment cluster fair to show off everything we have created. The students are excited to show off everything they have made.

Thank you once again for everything! These materials have really helped the students learn and grow!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Isbit

  • Y07 is Ready to L.E.A.R.N!

    Funded Oct 11, 2016

Thank you all so much for your donations! We are thrilled to be able to use all the new resources in our classroom. The first day when the students came in and saw all the boxes they were very excited! They kept pointing and asking what were in all the big boxes. We opened the boxes all together, as a class, and took all the new supplies out. I gave the students the opportunity to explore all the new materials. The cash register, the pattern blocks, and the bean bag chair were the favorites of the class. The pocket chart was my personal favorite because now we were able to create a schedule that the students can see and change every day.

The math link cubes and place value blocks have been an unbelievable support in almost all math lessons. There was one lesson that we were working on subtraction. Many students were having trouble understanding the concept of subtraction. Once I gave them the place value blocks to use along with the problems they have a easier time grasping the concept. All of the students were able to physically see that when one subtracts they have to physically take away a certain amount.

Our next unit is doing to be money. The cash register, the money flash cards, and the money puzzle will be a great support to the students. We will be doing a "store" in the classroom where the cash register will be a necessity. Everyone will be very excited to use the materials in the new lesson!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Isbit

As a new teacher there are many materials my class is lacking. These materials are key in keeping students with a low attention span engaged in activities. For my students, who are mainly kinesthetic learners, manipulatives such as the place value blocks, puzzles, and cubes give my students objects to physically work with. At my school there is only a black and white printer which doesn't always work. Having a printer in the classroom is beneficial to my students because I can print in color which will keep them interested. There are many times that my students can not identify what is going on due to the fact that whatever is on the paper is in black and white. Spending a day in the classroom doing work can be very over stimulating for students with Autism. To prevent students from getting overwhelmed I have a cool down area. The area has a few sensory items but a comfy chair would be ideal to really help them get away for a few minutes when need be. The donations for this project will improve my classroom by keeping my students engaged, because I will be able to provide the appropriate stimulation that my students need, but have a difficult time voicing. The end goal for my students is independence. With these materials my students will be able to learn how to count money, tell time, and do a multitude of other activities that are key in their independence.
