Did You Sew That?

Funded Nov 21, 2018

The students using the sewing machines that we received from donors choose are in the 6th, 7th and 8th grade. We are utilizing the sewing machines in the classroom setting to introduce the students to something that can help them possibly earn a living or extra income. Today, seamstresses are a dying breed and hard to find, by teaching the students like my grandmother taught me introduces them to different opportunities. After spending some lessons on the safety and parts of the sewing machine. They practiced gaining control of the foot pedal and guiding the fabric through the machine. The students are working on sewing aprons that they will then use for our upcoming unit on painting.

Of coarse then they first saw the equipment come rolling into the classroom on a cart they were thrilled and were looking forward to their sewing unit with enthusiasm.

Currently, we are experiment with using different stitches and when and how they can apply them to their work. I hope to continue to expand on our sewing projects and creating our own patterns in the future. This is all possible because of donors like you.”

With gratitude,
