First Writing Journals
Funded Aug 7, 2022Thank you so much friends for donating to my class. Your generous contribution allowed me to provide their first writing journals in class. The ones that the school provides are regular lines for third graders and above without any room to showcase their artwork accompanying their writing. We are using this journal every day after we have our daily classroom reading and discussion. Students are able to write the main idea or their opinion, depending on the reading piece, and work on improving their writing skills.
When the students first got the journals, they were very excited. The colors were vibrant and paper was of great quality. Knowing that these were gifted and we were the only kindergarten class to have them, made them feel extra special. As the school year is already over half way, the journals have yet to rip or get damaged. The students are really taking care of them because it is special.
We will continue using the notebooks to complete and then move onto their next journals which provides more lines and room to develop their thinking and writing to prepare them for first grade and beyond. Thank you again so much for being so giving and supportive!”

Funded Aug 12, 2021Thank you so much for your constant support for me, my students, and public education! As our school transitioned into finally having a laptop for each student this school year, a whole new world has opened up for the kids. Students learned how to create documents, slides, videos, and use a variety of learning apps where they can also showcase their learning through their own creations. Given this, we are able to display their work digitally on the screen by sharing from the teacher's projector. However, there is a totally different meaning and effect when students have their work displayed in the classroom and can refer to it and share constantly with each other. This is what you have allowed them to do. With the new printer, students are displaying their essays, their digital artwork, math graphs, and science SIMs. When we also have technology device issues in class and they are not able to access it, I am also able to print a hard copy for them to work on with the rest of the class. The best thing about this new printer is that it encourages students to try their best. When they know their work will be displayed for the other students, parents, and other visitors, they try more. And whether or not it was the best work, they are proud of it. They are proud of their work, their classmates' work, and being a student in my classroom. So thank you for your generous donation and support!”

Headphones to Hone Learning at Home
Funded Aug 8, 2020Thank you again for your generous support to me and my students! You headphones were able to have a tremendous impact in our classroom learning environment. There is a huge difference that can be seen with classes without headphones and my class. This would not have been possible without you. I can confidently say that my students are learning what they need to this school year during this remote learning period.
Students are making use of their headphones on a daily basis. I can see the impact the headphones have on the students. When they are unmuted to share, I can hear so much background noise (from television to parents on their work calls). This has truly been a game changer. Thank you so much for being extremely supportive (especially my long-term donors) and sharing what you have to help others.”

Funded Aug 24, 2020All the remote learning tools have been nothing but a huge supplement to our classroom environment building and learning. Students have their resources with their instructional materials to pick up tomorrow to annotate their texts and we have used the books to building our classroom family. In the images, you will see how the books are used remotely and the activities students are doing with the interactive read alouds. In addition, they are extending their activities at home to build characters we have discussed from the readings.
When I shared the books and the materials they will use this year, they were super excited. Some shared they have read it before and other have not. It is exciting to see how far students have come from what they learned before with the readings. We are extremely thankful for the generous donation and will continue to use to extend our teaching and learning to make remote learning a success!”

Scratch Art, Fidget Bands, and White Boards!
Funded Aug 20, 2019Thank you so much for you generous donation to support my students again! It seriously takes a community to raise a child. Thank you for being part of our community and making an investment in our future. The items received from your donation is being put to great use! We use the whiteboards in the classroom for math and spelling on a daily basis. It is a quick way for students to show their understanding while staying engaged. We also used art in our history lesson. They were so happy and excited when I introduced their assessment project using scratch art. They are to present their learning of their Native American group with scratch art to support their statements. It is such a big jump from just reading a textbook and taking notes. My students were able to research on their own online and have choices to select what to share and draw for their presentation.
When I first got the package, I let the kids know right away. We unpacked it together and saw the whiteboards, art supplies, and fidget bands. They were so excited to learn history because I told them the art supplies were for history. We will continue using whiteboards to support their learning throughout the day and integrate more art into the core academic subjects in the curriculum. Thank you so much for giving my students a chance to learn using something more than just a textbook. You are awesome!”

Flexible Seating - Wobble Wobble & Floor Desk
Funded Mar 18, 2019Thank you again for your care and generosity towards my students and myself. Your donation has helped me expand my flexible seating practice in the classroom. This is something students will remember for the rest of their lives. It was the only classroom in elementary school where they can choose to sit wherever they want and use the furniture you have helped provide to support their learning.
When I told my students that the project got fully funded, they were so ecstatic! They kept asking me when it would come and how we will take turns using it. On the day it arrived, I got it during my lunch. I had some of my students in the playground run to follow me in to the classroom to help me unbox them. The smiles on their faces and mine were priceless.
Throughout the rest of the year, students who had difficulty sitting still were able to use the wobble chairs on the floors and other chairs to help maintain their focus during instruction and independent work time. Students who normally like to work on the floor had the tables to help keep their books higher so they are not slouching to write and read in the book. They all knew how precious your donation was and took extra good care of the items when setting it up, during use, and as cleaning up. It was not the teacher's. It was all of ours. I will continue to reinforce the procedures and expectations of the items you have helped give to my class for this new year. Thank you again and I cannot wait to share all of this with my new group of students next week!”

Light Up the Students with a Projector!
Funded Aug 6, 2018Thank you again for your generous donation to provide my classroom a new projector. You have brought learning back to life and color in our classroom! With our new, vibrant projector, we are able to keep the lights on in the classroom at all times so students can work and read on their desks while other also looking at the information displayed on the projector. The color helps students when watching supplemental video on science experiments and when representing their presentations and movies. Additionally, learning time is not lost and is used to help students maximize their time in the classroom. When I told my students the projector was donated, they couldn't believe that strangers were willing to donate their hard earned money to help them learn. Thank you so much for your contribution and supporting education (and setting a great example to our younger generation). You have definitely made the right investment for their and your future.”

Fifth Graders Can Learn on Carpets Too!
Funded Jul 12, 2018Thank you again for your generous donation to allow my students to have a carpet in their classroom! Being the only class in third, fourth, and fifth grade to have a carpet in the classroom, it is already showing the positive impact is has on students. In our classroom, we are using our carpet as a meeting area for main instruction. When providing explicit instruction, students are able to sit on the carpet and focus fully on the teacher or speaker. They do not have their desk items to distract them. Students are able to start their day on the carpet and speak with their peers about their weekend or other discussion prompts. During math routine, number talks, students able to focus completely on mental math strategies away from their desk (paper and pencil). During Daily 3 activities (reading to self, working on writing, or word work) or independent work time, students are able to stray from the traditional desks and work on the carpet. Not only that, moving students every now and then to meet on the carpet helps get them up and moving. Sitting on their chairs all day does not help with the focus and attention. They love it!
Thankfully, my carpet arrived before the first day of school, allowing me to complete my classroom decor. When parents and students walked in for our meet and greet, their expressions were priceless. You can see they were excited and engaged in the classroom. It was different from the previous years for both of them. It was interactive and fun. When I can get kids excited for school, I know I am doing my job correctly. When I can get parents excited to support me and their child to go to school and learn, I know I am doing the right thing. This was all made possible with the help of my donors.
As we continue to use the carpet in the classroom, we are finding more ways to use it to its fullest! We are building community circles through Restorative Justice program and using it for indoor PE where students can practice their push ups and sit ups for their fitness exam. I am so excited to be able use my creative side to find more ways to use the learning carpet. Thank you again for making all this possible for my students!”
