Social Learning While Distancing In Kindergarten
Funded Aug 27, 2020We opened up the classrooms in September for in-person learning and as teachers we had to rethink our classroom environment as a place to learn and grow!
I want to thank you dearly for your contributions in making our classroom a warm and inviting place to learn while our Kindergarteners are practicing social distancing.
With your help we are able to use number and name label stickers to help students navigate learning stations around the classroom. We use individual and flexible seating options to create corners for students to be busy while being six feet apart. You helped provide us with the material to allow each child to use their own set of headphones and receive a box with sticky sticks and playdough for sensory play and hands-on learning opportunities. Thank you so much for helping me create a safe yet inviting learning environment for my students.”
With gratitude,

German Curriculum Books
Funded Aug 11, 2020We have been able to begin our German curriculum projects with truly high-quality children's literature thanks to your generous donations!
The books have made an impact on the student's interest in learning the German language as we were able to read them together in the classroom. It is amazing how the students have responded to the illustrations in some of the stories by creating their own art work e.g. when we read the book 'Heute bin ich' and they drew about their own feelings and friends. Learning a new language in connection with beautiful stories and pictures is a powerful and memorable experience.
Vielen Dank!”
With gratitude,
Ms. IKELER
This classroom project was brought to life by A Generous Donor and 3 other donors.German Read-Aloud Library
Funded Jul 20, 2020Starting this school year was challenging for many reasons, but your contributions helped create a little bit of normalcy for my incoming Kindergarten students.
I find that my students enjoy our quiet reading times, often reading the German books after we have read the books during Read Aloud times together. My little language detectives love to listen to me read and then look at the pictures and recognize familiar words later during independent reading time.
At the beginning of the week, the students can choose from the wide selection of our classroom library to 'pack into their book baggies' their personal ziploc bags. During reading time, the students study the pictures, learn to ask questions and begin to look at words and letters. Sometimes, they remember a specific German word to describe the picture (e.g. the colors in German or the name of a character) and proudly share their knowledge.
The fact that my students are able to experience another language in the classroom that is visible on our book shelves is an enormous gift for which we are deeply grateful.”
With gratitude,
Ms. IKELER
