We Love ELMO
Funded Oct 9, 2019I just wanted to let you know how much your donation has impacted my classroom. Many people don't know what an ELMO document camera is and why would you if you aren't a teacher. Well, remember overhead projectors? They were huge and took up half of the classroom, and all lights needed to be off in order to see the work you were displaying. The ELMO document camera is the opposite of that. It is very compact and you can put it anywhere in your classroom. It displays any work you place under it and can be seem from anywhere in the room. It truly is a teacher's best friend.
The students love it too because they can solve problems under it for the other students to see. They can also clearly observe any work that I am modeling for them in Science and Social Studies. It saves time for me and the students during class as well since I don't have to constantly turn the lights on and off. Im addition, the chrome book has also added additional technology to our classroom. The students are able to access Google Classroom to type assignments and work on any of the approved websites at school.”

Funded Oct 26, 2018Thanks to your generous donations my students have been receiving their weekly issue of Time for Kids. Time for Kids is similar to Scholastic News, however I find it to read more like a real magazine and the online resources are phenomenal. The magazine is especially useful this time of year when we are getting students ready for the state exams which are right around the corner. Many of the articles are non-fiction and at or above grade level, but high-interest which encourages the students to read them.
I am the English Language Arts teacher for the 5th Grade at my school, so I need additional resources to keep my students interested and on task. I have found using these magazines as homework especially effective. I assign 2-3 pages of reading in the magazine and either pose a question that they need to answer in their writing notebook or give them one of the worksheets from the Teachers Edition which is included with the subscription.
My students love getting each issue and looking through it to see the current events. I also have found that the magazine includes math and science via graphs and statistics that the students can interpret. It is full of grade level vocabulary and colorful photos and illustrations.
Thank you again for your support!”

Funded Sep 3, 2018I wanted to once again thank you for supporting me and my classroom! My students LOVE coming into our room everyday and finding out whose turn it is to use the chairs on the carpet or to sit at the table with the wobble chairs. I had to set up a rotation because they would literally race to get into the door and grab the first chair. Hopefully someday I'll be able to furnish my entire classroom with seats that children want to sit on and create a cozy environment for all of my little learners. With the generosity of people like you I just may be able to do so sooner than later :)
Prior to receiving the chairs and laptop desk I did have a few beach chairs and bean bags on the rug. However, the day that the boxes arrived and the kids opened them was exactly like Christmas Day for a teacher! They were screaming with delight and so thrilled that there are people out there in the world willing to make their classroom a little brighter without asking for anything in return. I know many of you personally and appreciate you going out of your way to bring a smile to my students faces. It warms my heart.”

TIME For KIDS Please!
Funded Jan 2, 2014I apologize for the delay in thanking you for your kind donations! The Time for Kids subscription began this September and my students are looking forward to receiving their issue on a weekly basis. They love reading the feature articles and especially keeping up to date on current events. Another thing that makes them feel great is that we are the only classroom reading Time for Kids in our school.
The first issue we received featured an article about the Panama Canal which many of the students had never heard of. So I am definitely teaching them how to navigate through non-fiction material. Another benefit of the magazine is that it's aligned with the new Common Core Standards so the administration is also supportive of the students reading it in class where we have limited non-fiction resources.
Again, thank you for supporting my classroom and literacy in general. The magazine subscription has definitely boosted their motivation to be great readers and they appreciate your donations as much as I do. We discussed how people care about them and their futures so they donated money to help get students things they need to help them do their best in school. They were surprised by your generosity.”

A Reading Nook
Funded Nov 24, 2009Thank you so much for your donation to my classroom project. My students, both during the school day and in the afterschool program I teach love reading, doing math or any other task on the sports pillows we received.
In addition we get a weekly edition of "Time For Kids" and my class looks forward to reading their magazine every Friday. There are several articles about current topics and activities for the students to complete. Without your donation, my class wouldn't have the opportunity to be updated on news around the world.
The bookshelves that were donated to my room also have helped me utilize the space in my room to shelve books that were previously in the closet due to lack of space to store them. My students help me keep them organized and we take care of the new materials that we have thanks to you!
