We Need An Easel For Our Literacy Station
Funded Nov 30, 2015Our class has been transformed by the use of our new easel. Along with being our literacy station, It has unexpectedly become a station for peer teaching. Students who show mastery in a skill are deputized (they get to wear a deputy badge) and charged with supporting a peer. Students love the opportunity to demonstrate their expertise at the easel. The students that are on the receiving end love the opportunity to practice on the easel.
When the students first saw the easel they were very excited. A member of the custodial staff set up the easel for us outside of the room. When he wheeled the assembled easel into the room, the students were very surprised. They wanted to know who had donated it to us and why. They were very excited to know that I did not have to hold up the chart paper while we write on it.
Some of the plans that we have for our class is to continue to develop the peer teaching station. In addition to one-on-one peer assistance, my students are now learning how to facilitate peer groups. One of my priorities in the class is for students to improve and master collaborative skills. The easel has been a great addition to our class. I look forward to creating more opportunities for my students to get individual and small group attention.”
With gratitude,
