COVID-19 has made all of us feel more alone and disconnected, even when high school can be a lonely time. Books are what made me feel like I wasn't alone in the world when I was young, and many of my students tell me the same thing. A button maker, sticker printer, and podcasting resources would allow us to create a culture of reading where students could share their love of books and find friends. These materials will help increase students' desire to read and also create a community of readers who can display their favorite books, reading challenges, and even record book reviews. Students can display their pins on backpacks and lanyards. Some months I will have themes where students can earn pins for reading books within the theme, other months I'll have pins for reading a certain number of books. Stickers will be used similarly, but students will also be able to make their own stickers. Our podcasting equipment will be used to share book reviews, host book discussions, and share them with students who can't physically be present. Our goal is to unite the readers and help them find a community here at school.
