Let the Games Begin! (Part I)
Funded Feb 21, 2021Words cannot express how grateful I am, as well as my students, for bringing joy back in their lives. This pandemic has affected all of us in different ways, but I would have to say that the children have been the most affected. At a time where children should be making friends, learning through hands-on experiences, going on field trips, and more, children had to remain home and learn remotely, missing out on many crucial experiences. I wanted to be able to provide my students with some games, so at the very least they can create priceless memories with their families.
As I dropped off the games to my students' houses, the families reactions were a mix of feeling surprised and excited, but more importantly, they were all appreciative. Many of them had not played these games before, and very much enjoyed creating these new experiences with their children. They were also happy that it gave the children an opportunity to be away from electronics.
I would like to thank you all again for your tremendous support and giving the children something to look forward to during this pandemic!”

Funded Feb 18, 2021We are so lucky and honored that you chose our class to donate to. We are forever grateful for this support, and making remote learning a success!
My students were so happy when they saw these headphones! They couldn't believe that these brand new headphones were for them, and better yet, headphones with a microphone! The very next day, all of the students were wearing these brightly colored headphones, as well as the blue-light filter glasses! They were able to hear me, loud and clear, and I did not even need to repeat myself. Similarly, on my end, I was able to hear them clearly. They looked very studious as well, I might say.
As the days went on, I saw my students become more and more focused. They were very much engaged in read-alouds, and answering my questions. They also stopped mentioning to me that they were tired, or that they had a headache. Attendance also increased, which was very exciting!
Thank you again for providing my students with the essentials they need for remote learning.”

Snack by Snack, We Will Stay on Track!
Funded Feb 9, 2021Thank you from the bottom of our bellies for making this project come to life! When I told my students snacks were coming their way, their eyes grew wide with excitement. They were truly amazed to learn that kind, complete strangers cared for them!
These assortment of snacks basically lured my students to keep on coming back for more learning. They were eager to come to class knowing that they could eat a snack while they learned, especially on the days where the lunch periods were later in the day. I can sincerely tell you that snacking had a great impact on the students because they were more alert and engaged in the lessons. I can also tell you that these snacks finished in the blink of an eye. Many of my students shared the snacks with their siblings and families.
Thank you once again for your contributions, and helping my students stay on track with these snacks.”

Funded Nov 30, 2020Words cannot express how grateful we are to have had this project funded. Although my students have not utilized these materials in school, I was able to personally deliver these supplies to them to use at home.
My students have been using the post-its at home to jot any thoughts they have about books as they read online. Similarly, they have been using post-its when they make revisions to their writing pieces. The highlighters, pens, and pencils are constantly being used during class to label the different parts of an essay. All of the reading, writing, and math tools had been printed on cardstock/colored paper so they are easy to find in the packets I had created.
With your generosity, I have been able to provide my students with a colorful classroom at home. Thank you once again for filling our lives with color!”

Ms. Haq

Funded Nov 29, 2020The year 2020 was definitely a year we all will never forget. Although we endured a rough year, you made it possible to end the year on a good note. Thank you for making the end of 2020 special for us!
We truly had a heart warming holiday at home with all of goodies we received. So many of my students had never created gingerbread houses, and were so excited to build them with their families. Some of the parents even mentioned that they plan on continuing the tradition of building a gingerbread house every year. These are the kinds of memories children will hold onto many years from now, and you are the ones who ignited it all. During the virtual celebration, we also sipped on hot coco (again the first time for so many of my students) as we watched the movie The Polar Express. Lastly, the assortment of candies provided a sweet ending to our fun-filled day.
Again, I cannot thank you enough for helping to create such a wonderful holiday experience at home that my student will remember forever.”

Funded Jan 1, 2021We are in awe of the generosity and support you have given our classroom! This laptop has helped create so many wonderful experiences during remote learning. We have been using the laptop in all academic areas.
In Reading, we have been using a Google "Jamboard" to create Reading goals. We have also been using the Jamboard to Stop & Jot anything we are thinking or wondering about during read-alouds. In Writing, we have been using a combination of Google Docs, Google Slides, and Google Jamboards to make writing as engaging as possible. The students join their breakout rooms and are off working on their essays with their peers. They never had so much fun finding and highlighting details to support their ideas! All of which I never thought could be possible in a remote setting. In Math, we have multiple students helping and solving a word problem at the same time. It is amazing to hear them explaining the different ways they arrived at an answer. I have been able to plan social and emotional learning activities as well without worrying about losing connection or sharing videos that always seemed to buffer. One activity in particular, my students enjoyed so much that the parents were asking to see pictures of it. It was on Valentine's Day, where we created a digital compliment jar for each student. Every student had to post a compliment about their peers in the jar. All of my students grew emotional, and were so happy to see that they were loved by everyone. These are the kinds of experiences we would not have had without the laptop.
My students cannot wait, day after day, to see what activities I have planned for them. Thank you again so much for your kindness, generosity, for making remote learning so much easier, and most importantly, for having us fall in love with learning all over again.”

Ms. Haq
EXTRA! EXTRA! Get All Your Facts Here! (PART II)
Funded Nov 30, 2020Thank you for the beautiful addition of nonfiction books to our classroom library. Unfortunately, my students have not been able to experience the joy of holding these books in their hands, as they have been learning remotely. However, after showing them virtually the variety of books and reading levels, they were very excited. They can't wait for school to resume to dive into these books.
With these leveled nonfiction books, my students will learn important reading skills of summarizing, finding the main ideas of sections, pages, and books, and synthesizing information to gain a deeper understanding of the content. These nonfiction books will also help my students learn comparing and contrasting skills. For example, comparing and contrasting the habitats, diet, and body structures of different animals will allow my students to gain a better understanding of how an animals body helps them adapt to their surroundings.
Thank you again for your contribution and hope you can consider supporting us in the future!”

Funded Nov 2, 2020It has been such a pleasure watching my students fall in love with these graphic novels. They really are becoming supersonic comic readers! The best part about graphic novels are that they usually come in a series, so once my students were hooked, they couldn't wait to continue reading the other books. What surprised me the most is that even with the constant switching from blended to remote, my students have been able to find the same graphic novels on reading online platforms. They were so excited to share with me all the comic books they had read.
With these graphic novels, first and foremost, my students are reading more. Their reading comprehension has also improved. They have been able to tell a summary across their fingers and answer the 5 W Questions- Who, What, Where, When, Why and How. Many of my ELLs use the pictures to answer the questions. Seeing the outcome of this project, I can definitely see another project for more comic books coming in the near future. Thank you again to all of you for making this happen in our classroom!”

BOOKed for the Year!
Funded Oct 22, 2020Thank you again for your contributions to our classroom! As mentioned in my project, my students are struggling readers who don't enjoy reading. Most days it is a challenge to have them read independently for five consecutive minutes. However, when I told my students that we had a special delivery, they couldn't wait to see what was inside the brown box. They all got out of their seats and gathered around the table to see what new books had arrived. After I labeled and put them in baskets, they were all so excited to go book shopping. The look on their faces was priceless; it almost seemed like they were getting a new video game. Some of my students asked, "Can I take these home to read?" which made me jump for joy! I hope this will encourage my students to grow a love for reading. Once again, thank you for making it possible to fill our classroom library with these wonderful books.”
