The use of technology in education is known to help students access curriculum instantly. The trend of assistive technology (AT) can help students with and without learning challenges access the general education curriculum. For this project, I would like to purchase three Google Chromebooks (plus a three-year protection plan in case of damage) for my students. These devices are popular in education because they include AT tools such as Read & Write for Google, Shorten me, and Diigo. These AT tools include features such as text to speech and speech to text to aid students in working around learning challenges they experience in all core academic subjects. I have seen first-hand students who use AT gain independence, increase confidence, and become more productive students in the classroom. The product I have selected will help my students in the following ways: Students will use Chromebooks to increase their comprehension of material in the general education setting by having any type of text read aloud to them, students will use word prediction software on the Chromebooks so writing in all subjects becomes less taxing on the students learning and processing of material, students will use Chromebooks to take assessments online, Chromebooks will increase students executive functioning skills by allowing them the opportunity to keep an online agenda, and Students will use Chromebooks to learn G Suite tools (Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.) they will need throughout their high school career and life beyond the K-12 education system. All donations to this project will help me be able to purchase Chromebooks for my students so they have access to assistive technology tools throughout their school day. Thank you very much for your support in my efforts to make my classroom more accessible for my students!
