By providing my first graders with the opportunity to have wobble chairs, balance ball chairs, and lap desks for seating choices, the students are able to take advantage of their own learning. Students will determine which seat choice best fits their individual learning styles, which will promote the most opportunities for success in the classroom. Giving my students the freedom of choice in their own learning will further empower, motivate, and encourage them as learners to be the best version of themselves. Last year, I was very fortunate to have gained some experience with what flexible/alternative seating looks like in a real classroom setting. I personally witnessed how beneficial these seating choices are to students. Through the use of wobble stools, ball chairs, wobble cushions, and various other forms of seating, these students were constantly more likely to be focused, motivated, and ready to learn. With this project, I hope to implement a flexible/alternative seating arrangement for my class. Ensuring that every student has a voice in their own learning is something that is very important to me, and giving them this opportunity will help strengthen a united, positive, and accepting classroom community!
