  • Learning Skills that Will Thrill

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you just doesn't seem to be enough. The generous gift you have given us is life-changing. So many of our students come from low income families and are not in a position to be able to afford computers. In some cases these laptops are the only way our students are able to complete online assignments and research.

My students are so appreciative and their eyes light up when they are given a laptop. They are full of pride when they are able to properly research, type up, and print their work. Being able to fulfill every aspect of our curriculum is so integral to the success of my students. Several online programs help my students to prepare for the New York State Exams. You have made this possible.

It is with a full heart that I thank you for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gibaldi

  • In the Mode to Learn How to Code

    Funded Jun 19, 2017

Thank you for your kindness and generosity. Attending the class was a truly insightful experience. Meeting teachers from other schools and learning from them about their experiences with students across the country was a definite highlight for me. We were able to share our strengths and struggles. Both are important to analyze and learn from. It's when educators get together and we share best practices that our students truly benefit. We examined several different factors that are instrumental for the success of our students in technology rich classrooms, such as: equity, software, tips for aiding special needs students, useful websites, interesting ways to engage our students, and making technology accessible for all.

I will take those valuable lessons with me as I move forward this school year with a new group of students. I am extremely grateful that I was given the opportunity to improve my craft and better serve my students and their needs. It is because of you that this is possible and I humbly thank you.”

    With gratitude,

  • Print, Publish, and Present

    Funded May 5, 2015

It is very difficult to express the gratitude that I have for the generous gift that you have given to both my students and me. Your gift is so very appreciated and has helped my students in so many ways. Being a teacher in a school with students who are living near or at the poverty line can be challenging. As an English teacher, my students need to type and print their writing tasks and when money is an issue, they often do not have printers at home. This year, I have been able to print their work for them. They are able to hand in formally typewritten pieces of work. The pride in their eyes as they see their work published is 'thank you' enough! They can confidently complete assignments and see the fruits of their labor.

Another way this printer/scanner has helped my students is that I currently have three students who have sprained or broken their writing hand and I have been able to copy and print class notes and sheet for them. This has enabled them to stay on schedule with their assignments, despite their current disability.

Finally, using the scanner to scan and display worksheets on my SmartBoard has enabled me to cut down on making copies. Our school has a paper shortage do to budget cuts and this has been a great way to get the work for my students without wasting valuable paper.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping my students on the road to success!”

    With gratitude,

  • A Reading Rainbow For My Classroom

    Funded Oct 27, 2014

Thank you so much for your generosity. It is difficult to put into words how appreciative I feel. If you were to see the excitement in the eyes of my students when I unveiled the new books, you'd know just how much of an impact it has made. My students were so excited to start reading the new books. Several students agreed to read The Maze Runner before the movie came out in theaters because they wanted to appreciate the real story. For teenagers to choose books over movies is almost unheard of, and I have seen just that. Since the first day the books were made available, they have been consistently signed out of my library, with some books on a wait list.

The books are enormously popular and my students are actively engaged in reading, talking about, and writing about the plot, themes, and the author's message to the reader. These skills will certainly help them to succeed on the New York State English Language Arts Exam.

It is as if new life has been breathed into my classroom and I am so grateful for that. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gibaldi

My school is known for its diversity. We are located in a Brooklyn neighborhood just north of Coney Island. Several of our students are from foreign countries and are learning English. This is a challenge when the New York State English Language Arts exam is so very important in the 7th grade. As an English teacher, I try to keep my students interested and engaged while reading and practicing reading strategies. It helps to have new and current books when engaging 13-year-olds to read. Our school is rather large for a middle school, and we recently lost our Title 1 funding, which means finding the money in our budget for schools supplies, such as new books, can be difficult. That is what brought me to Donors Choose.
