  • An Apple For The Teacher And Class

    Funded Oct 13, 2012

I just wanted to let you know how appreciative our class is of your generous donations for our new class iPad. It has been a wonderful addition to our class and the students and I love all of the applications that are available.

The iPad is used all day long by myself and the students. They are able to use the games for remedial work or enrichment, and there are never any technical issues with it, which is just fantastic.

One feature that has been wonderful is the camera and video feature. I love being able to snap a quick picture of the students work, or activity. They are able to look through the pictures on their own and reflect on their work.

It is really amazing what this little device can do in our class, and that all students can use it to enhance their learning.

Thank you so much for all of your help.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gandara

  • Listening, Learning, Loving

    Funded Sep 13, 2012

This is just a small token of our appreciation for all of your wonderful donations to our project. Our new set of CD players has added to our classroom resources, and gives more students access to great literature.

During our weekly rotations the students have a choice on where to go, and love our Listen to Reading Center. We now have enough CD players that they are able to choose a player and book and sit anywhere in the room to enjoy it. They are so engaged and love listening to the different stories. They love to tell about a new story they read, and share/trade stories with others in the class.

It has really helped to improve our literacy time and keep kids on track, and learning in a fun way.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gandara

  • Carpet Time

    Funded May 8, 2012

I just want to express my thanks again for your generous donations to our Carpet Time project. This carpet has added so much to our classroom and both myself and my students love it.

Every morning we meet on the carpet and it doesn't take longer than 2 minutes for them to find their square and sit right down.

They each have their own personal space and there is no arguing over who sits where. During our center time students go right to this area to spread out their materials and work. They also love to sit on it to read, or work with a friend.

Thank you so much for helping to make our classroom brighter, more inviting and a wonderful place to be.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gandara

  • Listen To Learn

    Funded Mar 6, 2012

I just wanted to thank you again for your generous donations to receive our Listening Center. The use of centers in my classroom has been so beneficial for me to work with small groups of students to meet their individual needs. Having this Listening Center has added much excitement and enthusiasm. One of my students said "This is the funnest center, we get to just listen to stories!!"

Along with just listening they are following along in the book and reading, whether they know it or not. This is so important for my struggling readers and my English Language Learners. They are hearing and reading real literature to help them become more fluent readers and speakers.

Again, I can't thank you enough for helping out our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gandara

  • Excercise Builds Great Minds And Bodies

    Funded Dec 7, 2011

I am so grateful for the generosity you have shown by donating to this project. This equipment has made planning and teaching PE lessons 100% better. The students are so excited and engaged during this time. Finally they all have their own hula hoop, bean bag or ball and do not have to share or work in teams all the time!!

My students always look forward to PE time, but now they can't wait to see what we will be doing each lesson and what they will be able to play with. My goal was to get all students up and moving the whole time. Because of your donation I am able to get their bodies moving and their minds growing.

Thank you again for your help.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gandara

I teach second graders in a rural community on the north shore of Hawaii. We have a small school which does not have a P.E. teacher. As the classroom teacher I am required to provide the students in my class with 120 minutes of P.E. each week. While we have a nice grass field, we have no gymnasium or equipment for P.E. which makes it difficult to implement new activities. Studies have shown that students who are active physically on a daily basis have higher academic achievement. Childhood obesity is also on the rise with parents working longer and students in front of televisions, computers and video games for hours on end.
