With diverse learners, comes diverse needs. If you think about your home, first comes comfort. A classroom does not need to be rigid. Desks in rows. But besides moving already placed furniture, kindergarten children are wigglers. They like to move their body. They should move their body. But there are also times when work needs to be productive. "Flexible classrooms empower student choice, increase student engagement, and improve student participation."- Edutopia I would like to purchase some flexible seating objects. Short stools for guided reading. I'd like to have a few bean bags in the library to mimic how we as adults, read, comfortably. I need a few balance boards and bands for chairs for my children that need grounding. I am also asking for balance balls that have shown to help children focus and develop posture while their bodies are "busy" and their mind is thinking. I would like some rockers for carpet time for those that need a seating that keeps them focused and on task without getting distracted. I have other alternative ways of seating such as standing desks and yoga mats, but these are the items I would love to have to complete my classroom project. When you empower your students, you have immediate buy in. Think about yourself as a student. What kind of classroom would you like to learn in? This project is going to turn my classroom into a place where students will have choice! . And to give particular students who need, a chance to self regulate.
