  • Our Art Club has Finally Arrived!

    Funded Jan 27, 2019

Your donations have been so helpful! We have completed so many various art projects and our most inspiring artwork was a pointillism piece in which the students diligently used marker dots to make their art come to life. With this particular art work students paid homage to the history of the African American head-wrap in honor of Black History Month. Week after week, we met as a club and dotted away for hours at a time, creating these remarkable portraits, that we would have never been able to create without your generous donations. In fact, two of the students pointillism pieces were selected to be displayed in a district-wide Art Show!!

When the students first saw all the art supplies that were waiting for them, they were full of joy and their smiles were as bright as the sun. They were ecstatic about all the supplies your donations helped us purchase, but the item they were most excited about was their very own sketchbook. These students who are so passionate about art had never had a sketchbook before and your generosity has not only given them supplies, but also given them an unforgettable experience. They treasure their sketchbooks dearly and are so grateful.

Our next and final project for this school year will be massive! Our art club is in charge of painting the backdrop for the final show of the school year! Thankfully, we have the supplies we'll need to get the job done!”

  • Flexible Seats for Flexible Learning!

    Funded Sep 7, 2018

Wow!! These flexi-seats that your donation has helped purchase has changed our lives. The level of productivity coming from the students simply from sitting comfortably low to the ground is beyond belief. Not only are the students producing and completing assignments, but also they are learning how to share within a system THEY created, successfully. There are 4 flex-seats and 28 students and initially the drama surrounding "who got to sit on the chair" was overwhelming. Using that desire to want to utilize the chairs we as a class created a sharing system where EVERYONE gets to use the low-to-the-ground, comfy seats throughout the week at their scheduled time. The students themselves created the schedule and moreover they manage it as well! To say that the students were excited upon seeing the chairs is an understatement and it fills me with pride to see how they took that excitement to develop a plan where everyone has an equal opportunity to use the flexi-seats. Thank you!”

  • Spread Love it's the Brooklyn Way!

    Funded Aug 22, 2018

Wow!! Your donations are making for an incredibly successful, joyous school year thus far! Usually by January we are running out of colored pencils, paper, pens, pencils, erasers, staples, tape, markers, and notebooks are tattered (because families usually can't afford "the good ones") and much more. Because of your generous donations of MANY various supplies we are moving smoothly from one completed activity to the next! With your loads of copy paper students have what seems like an endless supply of photocopies of assignments they need, to practice and apply the skills and concepts taught throughout the school day. Students also use the copy paper for art activities and just knowing that the paper and other art supplies are readily available is truly impacting their desire to spread their creative wings. Furthermore, all the students notebooks are in pretty good condition and having "the good notebooks" really has encouraged the children to take great care of them. The various genres of books that your donations helped to purchase have become valuable resources to the class as they provide extra support to the topics we are learning in History and Language Arts. The students and myself are beyond grateful for what you have provided for us.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Giovanniello

  • Please Reply and HELP Us Get Supplies

    Funded Aug 19, 2017

My students and I couldn't been any happier with the resources your donations allowed us to purchase. The art supplies in particular are being used weekly for MANY different projects. At the beginning of the year students created self-portraits and even their very own coat of arms based on personal and family characteristics. Another project we worked on were these magnificent cityscape silhouettes with bursts of color in the background in contrast to the black building shadows of the foreground. More recently students did some research on Vincent Van Gogh and learned a great deal about his life and then went on to create their own "Starry Night". All these projects of course, only made possible by you! In addition to the art supplies, your donations also contributed to our classroom library making it possible for students to read brand new, interesting and exciting books!

When the students first laid their eyes on the supplies they were ecstatic. Many of them grabbed the new chapter books and sniffed with delight that "new book" smell! Furthermore, upon seeing the art supplies students were super eager to get started right away on art projects! Which, naturally we did, starting our school year off with making self-portraits and keeping that momentum going!

Our next steps with these resources you provided is to blend these art supplies with the books and use these chapter books as the inspiration to have students write their own stories! In continuing with the school year students will also work on more art based projects such as their own portraits of Frida Kahlo, creating silhouette self-portraits, making theme based collages and much much more. They say that "You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you." and truly my students can never repay you, but know that your contribution has not only provided them with the supplies but also with a lesson on philanthropy and love. They have learned the great impact the act of compassion has on humanity. Thank you ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Giovanniello

If our project is fully funded my students will have some of what they need to become one step-closer to becoming successful, independent, and positive contributors to society. Since my classroom lacks computers the students will participate in many "unplugged activities" which require art and office supplies. Unplugged activities are basically a collection of learning activities that teach Computer Science through engaging games, projects, and puzzles that use paper, cards, string, crayons, markers, etc. For example, when learning about binary computing systems students will create code using markers and paper. Or when learning about pixels they can re-create simple images incorporating pixels, made out of graph paper and crayons. When learning about prominent figures in history they will need books about those topics to support their learning. In addition, many of the items in this project will help to create an organized learning environment.
