  • Headphones for Hardworking Special Education Students

    Funded Dec 20, 2024

Thank you so much for supporting this project. The use of technology is an essential part of learning in our classroom. In order for my students with special needs to access the curriculum, online assignments and activities, they need headphones. These headphones allow students to listen as stories and assignments are read aloud to them at the touch of a button. When they complete online activities, they need to be able to listen to instructions. This gives them the ability to play sounds as often as need.

When students take a break, they enjoy watching videos or listening to music. They are able to do this without disrupting other students who choose a quiet activity. Thank you for supporting such an important project. It has definitely impacted their learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Garcia

  • Learning is Better in Full Color!

    Funded Jan 6, 2023

I am so grateful to you for your generous donation to this project. Being able to print student work in color really helps my students who have special needs. Also, they feel special because I print their work in full color. Most teachers don't have access to a color printer, so all worksheets and handouts are in black and white. My students are excited to see color on their work. Printing student work in color really brings learning to life.

Moreover, a color printer has allowed me to create posters for students in full color. I make motivational signs and posters to remind them of important things. That makes it more attractive to them and much easier to see. My students love to see color everywhere. Thank you for giving me a tool that enhances my student's access to learning.

Another huge impact is being able to create beautiful certificates for my students and being able to print them in full color. They are so happy to receive them. They feel so proud and special.”

    Ms. Garcia

  • Flexible Seating for All!

    Funded May 23, 2023

Thank you so much for supporting this project. Not all students learn the same way. Therefore it is important for educators to provide what our students need to learn and succeed. Many of my students have so much energy, that they fidget and lean in their chair. These tools provide them with the opportunity to move while working, but in a safe way, so that they don't fall out of their chairs.

Not all students can sit in their chairs all period without moving; specially not my students with special needs. By providing these tools, we are reassuring them that there is nothing wrong with them and that it's o.k to want to move. I want my students to be happy and confident, so that they can learn at their maximum potential. Thank you for supporting my students.”

  • Wobble Stools for Active Brains with Active Bodies

    Funded Dec 28, 2022

Thank you for supporting this project. My students love the wobble stools. They were so shocked when the first saw them and thought they were strange-looking. All students took turns trying them. Some students liked them better than others; and that's fine. One size does not fit all. They all have different needs.

The ones that need them the most, loved them. They are their preferred seats. They remain in their seats, focused on their tasks. These students cannot sit still in regular seats; they need to move. The can rock and wobble around. This helps them focus their energy. The cushion makes them so comfortable. They are also adjustable for different heights. They are also safe. It is pretty difficult to fall off because they have a weight at the bottom.”

    Ms. Garcia

  • One Size Does Not Fit All

    Funded May 23, 2023

Thank you for supporting this project. I have some students who had been asking to work on the floor but I had no carpet , rug or mat. The floor is always so cold and not always the cleanest. My students, all students deserve better. It's not only about comfort but about dignity.

This carpet was perfect because it provides the the comfortable place they had been requesting. Some student like to lay down and relax during break. Others sit and read silently. Students can be comfortable while the focus and complete their work.”

  • Teaching and Learning Their Way

    Funded May 23, 2023

Thank to your support, my students all have access to flexible seating. Some students prefer the balance ball. Others prefer to stay in their seats but they really like bouncy feet rollers. Students who sit on the floor or on the bean bean bag use lap desks. I have a student who cannot sit still. The yoga ball is perfect for him because he rolls while sitting. He focuses on his work and does not disrupt others.

My students were very excited to see the balance ball, bouncy feet rollers and lap desks. They really appreciate having the opportunity to work where they can do their best.”

  • Hungry to Learn

    Funded Aug 24, 2023

Thank you so much for supporting this project. My students were delighted to see all the snacks and candy. Students have all the snacks available to them, so that they can always access them when they need them. Some of my students don't get a chance to eat before coming to school or they come to school after the school breakfast time has ended. Having something for them allows them to have energy to do their best in all of their classes.

When I first opened the packages, my student were so excited. They couldn't believe that it was for them. They are so happy to know that that this is a safe space for them and that their teacher cares for them and their human needs.”

  • Financial Literacy for Future Leaders!

    Funded Nov 24, 2021

Financial Literacy is so critical. Unfortunately, it is not taught in all schools or classrooms. I believe it should be taught to students if they are to be successful and productive adults. My students were unsure what to think until I explained the importance of financial literacy. Of course, it helps when the activities are fun. They were so engaged, and they were so excited about learning "adult things." We shouldn't wait until they become adults and hope the figure things out. Studies show that many adults are financially illiterate. My students come from low-income homes and shared what they learned with their parents; many concepts that parents didn't know.”

  • Inspiring Young Athletes to Read and Succeed!

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

Thank you so much for supporting this project. My student-athletes devoured the books and couldn't wait to read more. They found them very interesting and inspiring. They became more motivated to read and more confident. Classrooms must carry books that represent the diversity of their students. Thanks to this project, I could inspire my athletes to become motivated readers. They talk with one another about the books and making recommendations for new books. I am so excited about their progress. They deserve the best education possible.”

  • Stopping the Glare Once and For All

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

It is difficult to learn when lessons are projected on a whiteboard: there's so much glare! Thanks to the projector screen, my students didn't struggle to access lessons or material. Having a projector screen also increased engagement and participation. My students loved seeing everything much more clearly, especially if any text was easier to read. They thought it was fancy and thought they did have one before they didn't deserve it. I told them they deserve the best possible education; thanks to DonorsChoose, I can make learning more equitable in my classroom.”
