Shooting Star Stallions
Funded Jan 1, 2019We have gone without new basketballs for at least seven years. This year the girls were very excited to have new balls to practice with. They constantly wanted to practice with "the good balls" and would make sure to choose the new balls when we ran drills.
The girls were more confident in their abilities on the court with the new balls. They felt like they were able to dribble and shoot better with the new balls. The new balls had better grip and allowed them to handle the ball better. This gave them a more positive outlook on their abilities, which was especially important for players who were playing for the first time.
We were able to finish the season strong and even made it to playoffs, although we lost our first game and were eliminated. It was the first time in three years that we made it to the playoffs. The players are excited about continuing our work in the off season and improving their record and playoff performance next year.”

Binding Together for Student Achievement
Funded Apr 1, 2011Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom. The students really enjoyed the use of the binding machine.
We were able to use the machine around the time of the year when they take standardized tests. We taught English in the History class for about a month and I tied in what they had learned in history with the English skills they would need to take the test. I was able to bind the questions together in the form of a book and students worked with that book to read passages and answer questions. It definitely made things neater and more organized and limited the confusion of loose papers.
At the end of the year I also bound together books for my Advisory (or Homeroom) class. This contained work that they had done throughout the year. It was great for them to see all of the work they had completed in a nice finished product and many of them were very proud of their "Advisory Book".
Thank you again for your support and kind donation. I know it made the students' experience this year much more memorable.”

Classroom Supplies for Student Support
Funded Apr 7, 2011Thank you so much for you generous gift to the classroom. We have been able to use the materials in various ways, as shown in the pictures.
Students have used the white boards to become more engaged in the class activities. They write answers on the board and show it for a quick check on whether they understand the content. Students have also been able to use the boards to draw out their ideas and brainstorm before working on the actual assignment.
Several of my students who have a hard time studying have used the smaller post-it notes to flag important pages. This has helped them perform better on tests because I work with them before and tell them what pages to study and they mark these with the post-it.
The index cards have also been useful in color-coding different activities. In the example in the picture, the students worked with CST questions in five different topics and they could quickly tell which question belonged with which topic by the color. This helped to clarify the assignment and kept the students engaged as they were trying to find "a blue one!" or "a red one!"
Thank you again for your generous support and donation. It definitely helped to make the learning experiences for the students that much better.”
