Protecting Student Vision
Funded Mar 27, 2018It was so exciting to return to school after spring break and see our first delivery from the #BestSchoolDay promotion. My students don't know exactly what the eyewash stations are for, however if something happens in the labs they will be glad we have them readily available.
This is why your donation means so much to our students. Eyewash stations are vital to lab safety and now we are prepared if the unthinkable happens while working on projects.
Thank you for helping support our students in their classroom projects.”

Funded Mar 27, 2018It was so exciting to return to school after spring break and see our first delivery from the #BestSchoolDay promotion. My students are excited to have these masks ready for their next project in the materials lab.
When we took pictures today, we didn't have the students wear the masks because due to the nature of the materials they can not be re-used for safety. This is why your donation means so much to our students. Masks are vital to lab safety but expensive to keep in stock when they are unable to share or reuse them.
Thank you for helping support our students in their classroom projects.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Ripple.Training Our Bodies and Minds
Funded Aug 23, 2017The materials purchased for our students through Donor's Choose is helping to build a training center for athletes to build their strength. This equipment was requested for the track team but will also be used by other sports as the seasons progress.
When the students first saw the packages arrive, the team captain complained that the twenty pound ball was "too light" for him. After five minutes, he changed his mind and switched to the eight pound ball. The variety of equipment will allow out athletes to train in different ways.
Thank you to all the donors that made this possible. I posted on behalf of our coaches and athletes who also pass along their gratitude.”

Ms. Frede

Funded Mar 1, 2015If you are unaware, ISTE stands for International Society for Technology in Education and each year, they host an annual conference for teachers to come and connect in person. This year, the conference was in my home city of Philadelphia so of course I had to take advantage. I put up a request for professional development on Donor's Choose and thanks to your generosity I was able to fund my conference registration along with materials purchased during the conference.
The official conference began on Sunday night with a Keynote but I took advantage of already being in town by participating in a pre-conference training through Microsoft. I spent Saturday and Sunday in full day professional developments. I learned about some Microsoft programs I hadn't previously used and innovative ways to use the programs I already knew. At the end of the two days I received a certificate starting that I was a Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE), also known as a trainer. Following the two day training I also took advantage of Microsoft's offer to take their certification exam for free, receiving the Microsoft Certified Educator (MCE) certification.
Besides Microsoft, I also spent a good amount of time at the conference at events sponsored by Google. First up was a special breakfast for Google for Education Certified Innovators (the new title for Google Certified Teachers) and developers. This breakfast gave me a chance to hear about upcoming projects from Google and third party developers for Google add-ons. I can't wait to incorporate these applications into my classroom.
I meet some really cool educators from around the world including a group of three ladies from Guam. I also finally meet a ton of educators I have known online for a while. Being able to network in person has really helped to grow my learning network and I will continue to communicate with these educators after the conference.
Attending ISTE was a wonderful experience and I can't wait for September to share what I learned with my students. Thank you again for your assistance in making my attendance a reality.”

Funded Dec 11, 2014I would like to thank every donor for this wonderful gift to my classroom. Some of the items, such as the surge protectors and locks, help protect our classroom's new technology but the students don't directly realize the impact. I on the other hand realize how important this objects are for the longevity of our Chromebooks.
My students were excited to receive the headphones and cable splitters. My students are often doing independent assignments on the Chromebooks and many times these assignments include watching tutorials on YouTube. When you have twelve different videos going at the same time, the room could get loud and it becomes difficult to focus. Now students can use headphones to kept the work independent. Additionally, my students sometimes ask to listen to music in the background while doing work. It keeps the room quiet and the students focused on the assignments.
Finally, my students love the new presenter remote and connection cable. While they are learning how to become better public speakers they are presenting their projects to classmates. With the remote, my students are not tethered to the front of the classroom where nerves can become stronger. They have the ability to walk around and talk while displaying their projects.”

Using Chromebooks to Improve 21st Century Learning
Funded Aug 4, 2014When I first put such a large request on Donor's Choose I knew I was wishing for a lot. Having the project funded felt like a dream. Being the summer, it took a while for the reality to hit. The Chromebooks arrived around the end of September and by October we were up and running.
Each day, my students walk into the classroom and ask to get on the Chromebooks. Never are they asking to just fool around, each time they ask for a specific program or project we are working on. In the short time we've had the Chromebooks, I've seen their math comprehension and computer skills improve.
These Chromebooks have made a world of difference in my classroom and it's been less than three months. I can't wait to see what the future brings for my students.
Thank you again for the donation.”

Googling an Education
Funded Jul 17, 2014My students were very excited when they received new Chromebooks for the classroom. Within a few days we had them out of the boxes and each Chromebook took less than ten minutes to setup.
My students are already using the Chromebooks for projects and they are having a great time with them. Each day they have come into class and ask who can use the Chromebooks first. We had the students' GAFE accounts activated by the district and created accounts on MangaHigh for math interventions.
When students have technology in the classroom that works, they are quickly seeing the advantages. Students in other classes keep asking my students about their new computers and they are very excited as they tell them about the projects they've already started within the first two weeks.
I look forward to continuing to see these Chromebooks in action and my students are already walking advertisements to the administration. I haven't explained my end goal to the students yet about writing a proposal, but they are already headed in the right direction by themselves.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Frede
