Can You Help Me Get to ISTE 2018?
Funded Nov 2, 2018Each year, the ISTE Conference is hosted in a different city. While the experience and lessons are amazing, the cost of attending this conference is often the reason I am unable to attend. Between airfare, hotels, AND the conference registration it can easily cost a few thousand dollars. This year, I was fortunate to live in the host city of Philadelphia. With airfare and hotel reservations not necessary, the cost of attending the conference was still out of my reach. Thanks to the generous donors here, I was able to attend the event.
From the pre-conference events over the weekend to the full conference during the week, I had non-stop learning and growing. I was able to make wonderful connections with other educators from throughout the country that will help me as an educator. Through presenters and fellow attendees, I also picked up a collection of books for summer reading to continue the learning.
Besides the actual conference, registration also included the annual dues for ISTE which in itself is an amazing professional organization and I will have continued access to webinars, research articles, and lesson ideas until the membership expires.
Thank you to the donors for this professional development opportunity.”

Funded Apr 22, 2019When my students first learned I was trying to get prizes for their upcoming challenge, they didn't believe that strangers cared about their education. I was so excited to prove them wrong in the most positive of ways.
The wonderful prizes that were purchased with this project arrived only one day before I was introducing the stock market to the class so we opened the boxes together in the first class of the day. When they saw the Amazon Fire and chargers a few students showed their competitive side.
The continued generosity of donors on DonorsChoose.org never stops amazing me. Thank you for everything you do for teachers and students.”

Funded Apr 19, 2019Calculators are an essential tool for students to succeed in math, yet many students only have access in the math classroom. While the computers have built in calculators, some students find it annoying to flip between screens or get confused by the different data entry methods.
Within a day of these calculators arriving in our computer classroom, students already saw a difference as they are preparing for their standardized tests in two weeks. Although this was not the main purpose for our request, it's definitely an added benefit.
Next week, our students will begin their final unit of the year which is personal finance. They will be doing some calculations while learning about loans, interest, and the investing. Having calculators at each work station will greatly improve the ease of these topics.
Thank you!”

Funded Feb 28, 2019I cannot begin to express my appreciation for the generosity of people on DonorsChoose.org. Last month, I had put a request up for a Microsoft Surface Go which was fully funded and arrived. So far, I've already brought the Surface to a few workshops. The versatility of this device is great for my professional development. I can't wait for my next conference in April and ISTE in June. I will have no problems carrying around this light-weight device.
Thank you to everyone that helped bring this project to life. I can't wait to learn new things that I can bring back to my students.”

Funded Mar 11, 2019I cannot begin to express my appreciation for the generosity of people on DonorsChoose.org. Last month, I had put a request up for a Microsoft Surface Go which was fully funded and arrived. When I realized how much more I could do with a docking station, I put this second request up. The wonderful combination means that I can have a light-weight computer when I need to head out to conferences and such, but I'm also now able to connect it to a monitor and enjoy webinars without straining my eyes.
Thank you to everyone that helped bring this project to life. I can't wait to learn new things that I can bring back to my students.”

Funded Dec 24, 2018There is nothing better than the look on students' faces when they are having fun. Often times, computer class seems boring to them because while they are learning important skills, students would prefer to sit on YouTube or video games.
These new toys are a great addition to the classroom because it lets them take their code from the computer screen to a tangible object without being too advanced for a first encounter.
Thank you so much for helping bring pop culture into the computer course. Hopefully the basic coding lessons taught will encourage students to consider the more advance computer science classes as upper classmen and/or in college.”

Preparing the Next Generation for Life on Mars
Funded Mar 27, 2018I am so excited that this professional development request has been fully funded. Teacher's Space Academy has been a goal of mine for a while but was always just out of reach. Now, I will be flying down to Alabama this summer to train with NASA approved experiences. Some parts of the training will mimic the real astronaut training.
Besides the physical training, the teacher's program goes a step farther and provides lessons and activities to bring back to students. These engineering challenges will encourage students to think outside the box; a skill that will be necessary if we're ever going to reach Mars.
Thank you again for helping to fund the opportunity to participate in this program.”

Funded Mar 27, 2018It was so exciting to return to school after spring break and see our first delivery from the #BestSchoolDay promotion. My students don't fully understand the need for this project, but they soon will.
The cabinet will be installed in our Material's Lab (woodshop) where we will use it to sanitize the goggles used in both the Material's Lab and Science Labs.
We haven't taken pictures yet because the cabinet hasn't been installed but I wanted to say thank you. Your donation means so much to our students. Goggles are vital to lab safety but making sure they are clean for student use is a time-consuming process.
Thank you for helping support our students in their classroom projects.”

Funded Mar 27, 2018It was so exciting to return to school after spring break and see our first delivery from the #BestSchoolDay promotion. My students are excited to have these masks ready for their next project in the materials lab.
When we took pictures today, we didn't have the students wear the masks because due to the nature of the materials they can not be re-used for safety. This is why your donation means so much to our students. Masks are vital to lab safety but expensive to keep in stock when they are unable to share or reuse them.
Thank you for helping support our students in their classroom projects.”

Funded Mar 27, 2018For the past few years, we have been using random locks and boxes to create the experience of BreakoutEDU with students. Thanks to you amazing donation, now our students have the official BreakoutEDU kits and our team has access to the digital resources needed to re-create standard based games. Plus, the locks all match and are interchangeable to allow even more variety in the development of game play for the students.
As always, I am blown away by the generosity of people on this site and thankful that you all support teachers and classrooms.”
