Help Us Get Our School Year Started
Funded Dec 16, 2024Thank you so much for supporting our classroom. My students and I appreciate your kind hearts and generosity. We are looking forward to using the bean bag chairs as a way to help us create a positive and comfortable reading environment. My students are also looking forward to choosing items from the treasure chest weekly. Thank you again for your contribution to helping us get through the school year with the items we need.”

Basic Supplies to Support Success
Funded Dec 31, 2016The classroom materials we have received due to your donations have greatly impacted our classroom for the better. When the materials were delivered the students were surprised and excited to see that they would have a variety of resources to use. They love using the dry erase markers to solve math problems and pens during writing workshop. The colorful chart paper has also been a huge hit. We use it for a variety of classroom assignments. The students love working in groups to complete tasks and use the chart paper to create informational posters to present and display.
These basic materials have kept our classroom going this year and we will be able to finish the year off strong because of them. We have a have a final writing assignment coming up where the students will be typing their very own fairy tale adaptations for our final publishing party. I will be able to print those stories and bind them due to the printer that was received because of your donations.
Thank you again for your generosity and kindness.”

Developing Readers and Our Classroom Canvas
Funded Oct 30, 2015Thank you again for your generous donation. After the shipment arrived, my students were excited to know that they had a larger variety of books to choose from to practice their independent reading. The books I have received from Donors Choose have been separated by reading level and genre, and have been placed in the classroom library.
In my class students are required to choose 4 books a week to borrow from the classroom library. Their book choices include two chapter books, one non-fiction text, and a picture book. Each book is a book that is on their independent reading level. The independent reading levels in my class vary from F to R. Students should be reading at a level P/Q by the end of the 3rd grade. In order to meet this goal students are given 30 minutes of independent reading time daily in school and 30 minutes for homework. Reading for at least an hour a day will help build their reading stamina and fluency. In addition to reading for an hour a day, after completing a book, students write a book report and conference with myself or my co-teacher. They answer questions about the text as well as questions that make them think beyond the text. We do this to ensure the students comprehend the books that they read.
Over the winter break my students were required to write a book report on a notable person in history. One student chose Amelia Earhart. Included in the shipment was a book about Amelia Earhart and she used it as one of her research resources. The book was given to her by a classmate who sorted the books into the library. Their interest in literature has grown as a class because of your donation. They are striving to read all of the new books and sometimes request them by saying, "Ms. Francis, I want to read one of your books." Hearing that fills me with so much joy. My students want to learn and they want to become better readers. These books will help get them to the next level.”
