  • Welcome to Snack City

    Funded Dec 11, 2021

Thank you so much for your contribution of these many variety snacks for the students of Trenton. Many of these kids go throughout the day without food to nourish their minds and bodies. With access to these free snacks, students are able to feel their best and brightest. I provide students with these snacks whenever they ask and they know they can always come to me when they are in need for grab-and-go meals. Having a fully stocked pantry is such a blessing for these students.

I am so grateful for all of you and the Donorschoose community for making these items available to my kids. With the looming threat of returning to remote learning due to the Omicron Covid 19 variant, relief like this goes a long way. Kids are nervous and the building is on high alert. Having a quick snack to both cheer them up and keep them moving really makes a big difference.

That said, we are looking very seriously at being remote in the coming month. Perhaps more, if things continue to trend upward. To support remote and hybrid instruction, I am requesting an Apple iMac desktop which will not only provide dual-screen learning for students but also keep the hybrid classroom running smoothly as we anticipate transitioning over to remote again. Please consider supporting this project which would be so meaningful to our classroom as technology items are often overlooked necessities in urban districts. We would appreciate your support so much!”

  • A Macbook for Our Makerspace

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

I can't explain how much this new Macbook Air has transformed technology accessibility in my classroom. With this new device we are able to download software that is compatible with our other tech items. For instance, we are able to connect with our Oculus VR headset and see what a student using the headset is seeing on the screen of this Macbook Air. This kind of thing is especially enriching for students as they can experience different versions of virtual reality experiences through the eyes of their peers.

When I first posted this project, I was reluctant due to the high cost of this item. I knew I would be so lucky but that it was unlikely when there are many projects at such lower costs. It is hard to expect these kinds of items to fund in such a short time. Students in my district and many districts like mine do not get to experience the benefits of cutting edge technology as often the budget doesn't allow for items like these. In underfunded urban districts, these items are often last on the list of things that are a priority. Because of the amazing people at Donorschoose and the Donors such as yourself who are committed to seeing students have access to the best and most effective materials for their education, the kids now have access to Apple products that can transform their education.

We are still going to need much more technology to modernize our classroom. If you wish to continue to support our technology needs, we have a request that expires in only a few days for a SmartTV that will be even better for viewing the Oculus and for students to showcase their work. We also have a pending project for a new iMac to assist in blended and virtual learning as the threat of going hybrid looms again with the sharp increase in COVID-19 numbers at our school. Please consider these two projects to help us create the most advanced classroom we can have!”

  • Hot Meals and Healthy Minds

    Funded Dec 1, 2021

The hot meals are flying off the shelves! These kids can't get enough of them. My classroom is packed for lunch with students who would otherwise have nothing to eat. My kids love the breakfast items, especially during 2nd block when they can't eat or get in too late to get breakfast. I can't tell you enough how excited the kids are to have something warm in their stomachs every day after their walks to school on cold mornings.

We are so grateful to you for caring for our students health and wellness. This is the kind of care that kids like these really need to motivate them and to support them, especially during difficult times. I believe these small kindnesses, especially warm meals, show them how much they are cared for and gives them incentive to achieve higher.

We would love your support on our additional Warmth, Care, and Hunger requests. Currently, we are requesting sweaters, hats, gloves, and scarves in a project called Winter is Coming! These items will be distributed to students in need during the cold winter months. We are also requesting gift cards for pizza in a project titled Prizes for Positivity that will be given selectively as PBIS rewards for students. Please consider supporting either of these projects if you want to continue in support of our classroom. We want to see our students fed and warm and are so grateful to you for helping us see that vision through to reality.”

  • Thank You For Giving ALL Students Thanksgiving

    Funded Nov 23, 2021

I am so touched by your generosity and spirit of giving during the holiday season. These items are now being packed up into holiday baskets that our student council are going to give out to students in need. The student council students have begun to organize a food bank, now, and the school is collecting more goods and products so that students that need food will always have access to items they can take home for themselves and their families. You should know that your contribution is a blessing to these kids and their families during a time when blessings are far and few between for many.

Thank you so so much for contributing to this project. I will be posting similar projects to support the student-led food bank. These products will go a long way in helping students to support themselves and their community. Should you wish to support similar projects, be on the lookout for our food bank projects in the future! Or, you can contribute to our requests for gloves, hats, and scarves to support the kids who walk two and from school every day. We are also requesting health and hygiene products to keep the classroom clean in addition to grab-and-go hot meals that students can heat up in the classroom for breakfast or lunch and take home for dinner.

The DC community truly makes such a difference! Happy Holidays to all!”

  • Powered By Solar and Greener Products

    Funded Oct 12, 2021

Thank you so very much for funding this project so swiftly. I am overjoyed and so excited for my students who researched these items themselves. We can't express enough how much it means that we are practicing good sources of energy use. The solar chargers have been especially impactful with my students who bring their own plugs and charge their devices during lunch time. We are now also able to plug in all of our hydroponic systems, all of our air purifiers, and all of our classroom comforts like our Roomba and refrigerator.

Projects like these help to create a calming and comforting atmosphere for students in areas where those kinds of environments are few and far between. Having cleaner energy sources is meaningful because it creates a mindfulness about energy waste and consumption where before there was none. We are fostering generations of environmentally conscious citizens!

We are so thankful for your support and especially for the support of those who continue to help fund our classroom projects. Please consider supporting some of the additional projects we have currently posted, including our Macbook project which will help us to get our 3D printers up and running! These printers can turn our classroom productivity up by so many notches, but we don't have a way to currently get them running. Supporting the Macbook means helping our kids create new and lasting 3D printed environmental and chemical models. Thank you for your continued help!”

  • We Need Seeds!

    Funded Oct 5, 2021

Thank you so much for supporting this project for my students. We posted the project and in less than a week it was fully funded. I can't express how meaningful it is to have support like that from you and the Donorschoose community. We are so grateful and so lucky for people like you who truly care about bridging that gap that exists for underfunded schools.

Our seed pods are already growing in our hydroponic gardens. We have set up an entire classroom's length of window bird feeders (which sees visitors from our flying friends every day). We have expanded our bird feeder and bird bath, cleaned up the area, and mapped out places for butterfly gardens and bee hives. The students are so invested in the biodiversity our classroom gets now and I can't tell you how exciting that is for an environmental science teacher to witness.

I want to say thank you again from the bottom of my heart. My classroom would not be such a warm and inviting place without your support. We are currently match funded a second time for 3x in a project requesting greener and more efficient power sources for our classroom. With all our hydroponic goals, these supplies will help us to maintain a greener space and minimize the impact we have on our environment. Please consider supporting that project if you want to continue supporting us still!”

  • Basically... We Need the Basics.

    Funded Sep 23, 2021

Thank you so much for supporting our Basic Needs request. This project has had such a huge impact on my classroom as we are now able to print, my students are able to access writing utensils and tape and staples as needed, and so much more. Just today, my kids took advantage of the new chapsticks we have in our hygiene supply shelves and they were so excited to smell them and choose which ones to keep and enjoy.

We are so grateful to you for supporting our classroom needs and our vision of equality in learning. These basic needs make such a difference for our students who need our unrelenting belief in them and their ability to achieve everything. Thank you for giving them the tools they need to reach all their goals.

Should you wish to support us in some of our current goals, we are really hoping to see the project A Macbook for our Makerspace fund - this Macbook would be very important for our classroom to help us set up our 3D printer and our Cricut to work throughout the day. Thank you so much!”

  • Tiny Things on a Couple Big Screens

    Funded Sep 23, 2021

Thank you so much for funding our classroom microscopes. Without this, our school would not have access to microscopes for students to study the smallest things. We are so grateful, especially when we learn about chemical reactions and photosynthesis, to be able to have a set of digital microscopes that students can work with to see these things occur in real time. The specimens that were sent along with the microscopes are so crystal clear and fun to look at and observe!

Your support of our classroom goals and visions has been overwhelming. Thank you for giving my students these amazing opportunities for fun in our room. Please consider supporting us in the future as we seek to create a more fun and interactive learning environment. Our current request for a SMART TV with AppleTV streaming will go a long way when we project our live streams, our digital microscope screen shots, and student digital work. This television would mean so much to our classroom and it is in real need of funding! We do not have a working classroom projector and need this to show material.

Thank you again for supporting us and our visions!”

  • Fueling Minds and Bodies

    Funded Sep 23, 2021

My goodness, what an impact this has made. My kids are fed and they have water! These refillable boxed waters are such a hit. The students have each their own bottle that they leave in my classroom and clean when necessary. They have a refillable LifeStraw water pitcher that they use to refill their waters. Throughout the day, my students come to me with their bottles that they fill and refill over and over again. Much more than any other item I've gotten in recent donations, the access to drinking water has made all the difference. I don't know how we take for such granted the need for water in the day, but truly this has been blessing for my students. Clean water to drink through the day invigorates them!

The snacks and food items we've received have been amazing for the kids, as well. Two days ago, a young girl in my class took home Mac & Cheese cups so she would have something to give to her siblings for dinner that night. I can't express to you what a gesture like that really means in words. Those kids were fed, plain and simple. Thank you for helping to feed them. Supporting kids with basic needs like these lets them know that they are cared for, so thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping to care for them.

We need to continue to care for our kids! Not only through supports like these, but through ways to make their education successful. If you can, please consider supporting my professional development project. I am requesting this support so I can be better educated in new, fresh learning styles. The course I will take will teach me how to Gamify my classroom, allowing students to "level up" rather than receive grades. It is a new approach to teaching that I would like to master to foster a sense of achievement and success based on effort rather than recitation and regurgitation. We can give kids more support than ever before with newer, fresher styles of teaching.”

  • Hydroponic Classroom Gardens Cultivate Healthy Kids

    Funded Sep 23, 2021

I can't explain enough how grateful we are for this project in our classroom. Hydroponic gardening has been SO fun for my students. With the addition of these larger industrial gardens, our ability to grow produce like tomatoes and peppers has increased at an amazing degree. We are so looking forward to growing these larger plants. Our smaller gardens are flourishing, as well! Nearly every garden has germinated and we're looking forward to harvesting the dill, basil, cilantro, and other wonderful herbs that we've got growing in our gardens.

We need more seeds for our gardens to flourish year round! Please consider helping our seed pod requesting project titled We Need Seeds! This project requests seeds both for our hydroponic garden AND for our bird feeders which support our biodiversity live stream. With these seeds we can continue to grow and prosper through the year.

I want you to know how extraordinary the impact of these gardens has been. My students are joining garden club, taking interest in composting, and taking MUCH more seriously the need to be sustainable in our school. THANK YOU for helping to foster a new generation of environmentally conscious citizens. You have given them better and I know that because of this, they will start to demand better of our world.”

My students work diligently to create a more sustainable environment within our high school. Using a program called Eco-School, we perform rigorous sustainability audits of our school. To combat the issues we find, my Eco-School kids will grow hydroponic produce in class to support healthy lifestyles and more eco-friendly habits. They will use rainwater collection systems to purify their water. They will compost, create healthy eating initiatives, learn outdoors, and much, much more. To do this, we use a Project-Based learning teaching method. They develop leadership and public speaking skills, explore their ecological footprints, and drive their own learning. Their knowledge of their personal environmental impact has increased substantially. Supporting our classroom supports a fully student-led, student-driven environmental goal that will help to foster future generations of environmentally conscious citizens.
