A Fresh Apple for Fall
Funded Jul 29, 2022I can't express my gratitude for this ENORMOUSLY gracious gift enough. This iMac is going to transform my productivity level and thereby transform the quality of content I am able to deliver to my students. I am already setting up the space and making the iMac right at home. I don't know that it is possible for my to explain exactly how much of a game changer this is going to be for me, but I will say that the measure of gratitude is off the charts.
I am planning on syncing this iMac with several other projects over the course of time. It will work with the 3D printer to print small scale classroom models. It will work with Alexa units. I plan to utilize trail cams for wildlife in the classroom, and this will help me upload those photos and videos. Most importantly, however, this iMac is going to facilitate my learning of simulations and programs that will allow me to create a fully operations blended learning/project-based classroom. I know that this will take time, but now I have one of the tools I will need to apply to my time efficiently.
As mentioned, I am going to request items to eventually pair with the iMac. I will include a portable tablet that I can bring outdoors to study 3D modeling, which I have requested in another project. However, there are other much more pertinent requests, including those for basic needs like backpacks for my kids. Eventually, I will have everything the kids need to be comfortable, well-fed, and happy students this year.
Thank you, again, and you are the best!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Flora

Funded Jul 27, 2022Thank you so much for contributing to this Rosetta Stone project. This project is especially important because representation matters so much in my district. Showing my students that I both respect and embrace that is important not just for me, but for them as they try to learn in my classroom. I am incredibly grateful to you for allowing me to embark on this journey to learn such a special language.
Our classroom has been graced by generous donors like yourselves. We are so fortuitous to have the support of the Donorschoose community and the people who bless teachers like myself with these generous gifts. Until my classroom found Donorschoose, it was barren and lifeless. Due to support from Donorshoose, I have been able to transform that space into a place where students can thrive. Now, you've given me the opportunity to transform myself so that I can be a better teacher and person to help them thrive even more.
We are so grateful for everything you do for us and we continue to feel those blessings from you and those like you. Thank you for taking interest in my projects. Some other projects we will seek to fund include an outdoor classroom picnic table for students to read and write at, headphone and science books for them to relax with, pads and tampons for the young ladies, healthy breakfasts that students can have for free, basic cleaning supplies, chapsticks and lotions for students who walk to school in humid or brisk air, and Alexa echo dots to help students who struggle to wake up set themselves reminders for school.
Thank you, again, for everything you have done to support us!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Flora

Funded Jul 23, 2022You guys are truly the best, especially the people from Caring Classrooms and Kleenex who are so dedicated to helping us teachers. I can't express enough how grateful we are for your support. Without efforts from those like you, from the DC community, and from all the people who work so tirelessly to make sure these projects come to life, so many classrooms would be bereft of the joy and happiness you all bring.
These items are going to go such long way in ensuring that students are prepared this year. My classroom is already coming together and its still only July! I can't wait to see everything when we arrive and can organize, clean, and set up for what is sure to be an excellent start of school because of you. These basic items are so important to classroom success.
If you want to continue supporting our classroom preparation for next year, would you consider a donation to our book project We Read in Science Class too? This project is requesting books and headphones which we do not currently have so that students have time to read and relax in peace and quiet. This project unfortunately will expire in less than 30 days and could use a good push over the finish line. Or, if you want to donate to a project with a match offer, right now J.W. Couch Foundation is matching donations to my project A Fresh Apple for Fall. This project will provide a sorely needed iMac desktop computer which will allow me to develop project based learning and blended/hybrid activities for my kids. It is less than $800 to fully fund right now due to this amazing match!
Again, thank you so much. We love you!”

Funded Jul 21, 2022Thank you SO MUCH for donating these personal health and hygiene items to my students, and especially thank you to Kleenex for matching funds for teachers like me across Donorschoose. We are so excited to be able to offer these things for our students in need. The impact that being able to feel and smell fresh for school has on students in their teenage years is truly immeasurable.
I am dedicated to making sure my students feel safe, cared for, and provided for. Many of my students do not have regular access to some of these things and knowing that there is a place to go in their school to get them is important for their mental health and well being. This is why I am requesting additional items. In the project Women Are Amazing, Period, I am requesting specifically feminine hygiene products for the young ladies. This project protects them from the stress that going through a period in school without access to necessary products would bring. Like this project, Kleenex as matched donations 2x which means we currently only need $141 to fully fund. I am also requesting healthy breakfast items for my kids. Many times, my students arrive with cheetos or soda for breakfast. In Nourish Our Kids With Healthy Breakfast I am requesting breakfast bars. If You wish to continue to support my students, would you consider a donation to one of these?
Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am so grateful and my classroom is forever blessed because of you!”

Ms. Flora

Funded Jul 21, 2022Thank you so much for supporting this Aerogarden project. It has now joined our hydroponic classroom garden and is set up for success. Come fall, our Aerogarden is going to have so many wonderful herbs, tomatoes, and peppers that students will be able to enjoy fresh in class. We are going to be Aerogarden representatives soon enough as we continue to add their products into our classroom hydroponic gardening system. Hopefully our gardens will continue to grow through the years.
I want to express my deep gratitude for supporting projects like these. Scientific project based learning - such as developing a hydroponic garden in class - create formative memories that last students' lifetimes. Kids will remember the classroom that had all the gardens in it and remember how interesting it was. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but one day a student is going to remember it with such fondness that they will pursue a career in science. My goal is to inspire the kids to love science as I do and to enjoy science while they learn it. Funding this project gives me the opportunity to do just that.
If you are interested in our continued classroom improvement efforts in science and technology, please consider our most recent project "A Fresh Apple For Fall". This project is matched with a 2x offer that means every donation is doubled. We are a school in desperate need of technology upgrades and these are often the last items on the list of things in our budget. Donating to this project will mean donating to the development and continued improvement of project based learning activities like the hydroponic gardens, our sustainability efforts to create drinking water from rain and compost our wastes, and our STEAM initiative with 3D printing and more.
Thank you again, SO VERY MUCH! We love you and we love the DC community!”

Ms. Flora
Teaching Diversity With Biodiversity
Funded Jul 15, 2022Thank you so much for providing these new bird feeders and seed to attract biodiversity. We are excited to offer comparisons now between our different locations of bird feeders. We are fortunate that we can not only view the birds from outside our classroom window, but we can also now view birds via livestream and compare the different kinds of species that we see in urban inner city areas vs. rural areas. How marvelous that is for students to be able to see every day!
I want to express my deep gratitude to the community of Donorschoose and all the wonderful people who make this happen. Our classroom has truly transformed over the last year that we have been on this website. Together we have created a greener and more sustainable place for students to learn. Without projects like these that tie diversity to biodiversity, students in schools like mine would not have the same opportunities that students in suburban districts have.
We continue to try and create a sustainable and eco-centric environment within our school. Right now, our project-based learning focuses on creating an outdoor classroom. If you are interested in continuing to support our requests, right now we are requesting a picnic bench in the project titled Science is Better Outside where students can sit and complete their work outdoors. We are also requesting an indoor hydroponic gardening system in the project titled Bountiful Classroom Gardens where we will grow fresh produce throughout the year. If these projects are ones that interest you, please consider supporting them!
Thank you again from the bottom of my heart! There is no better community than the DC community!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Flora
A Little Bit of Love From Little Debbie
Funded Jun 2, 2022Thank you so very much for sending my summer school students these Little Debbie snack packs to enjoy. I was able to share some of the oatmeal creme pies with students on their last day of school yesterday which was a fun surprise for them. I am so excited for students to be able to enjoy the entire variety of snack cakes being delivered.
Our shipping got a little bit out of whack due to the summer months coming, but we now have honey buns and cookies on the way to add to our oatmeal creme pie hoard. I know these snacks will make all the difference for students who are stuck inside for summer school this year. We already have a record number of students attending for summer school and keeping them motivated throughout is a challenge I feel much more prepared for now that I have snacks to give them during the day.
I appreciate the kindness of donors like you who help us to realize these goals and visions we have for our kids. We are so much better off as teachers and professionals because of what this community helps us to achieve. I can't thank you and Donorschoose enough for supporting teachers like me year after year. If you have continued interest in our summer school success, please consider donating to our summer school tech request. We are hoping to fund a new desktop computer for blended learning both inside and outside of the classroom. This would make an immense difference in the amount we are able to accomplish throughout the school year. We are also seeking to build an outdoor classroom this summer and if you wish to help us create this classroom, we are asking for a picnic bench where students can sit and complete their work outside.
Thank you again from the bottom of my heart!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Flora
Proper Tools for PBL Learning
Funded May 25, 2022Thank you SO MUCH for providing our classroom with tools to create a STEM program. We are so excited for the different things we are building for an outdoor classroom this year. Right now, we have all the materials prepped and ready to build a butterfly garden. We have an incredible array of seeds that are going to be planted and hopefully during summer school we will have a wide variety of flowers attracting biodiversity from near and far.
We are planning to use the tools for much more than just the butterfly garden. Soon, a new year will start and we hope to have set up parts of our outdoor classroom by that time. First and foremost we want to have a picnic bench that students can use to sit and complete their work that we will build and assemble ourselves. If you are interested in contributing to our classroom further, please consider a donation to our picnic bench project called Science is Better Outside. In the future, we plan to work on a sunflower garden and even more butterfly gardens and outdoor classroom items.
We appreciate so much the support our classroom has received from donors like you. Our classroom grows and expands year after year. Right now, we are concerned most of all about the availability of technology that we need for summer school. We are requesting an iMac that will support our blended learning summer program. This is our current biggest need and although it is a larger project, we would love to see it funded. Please support that project if you can!
Thank you so much for your continued support. We love you Donorschoose Community and all the folks from Caring Classrooms who help us so much!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Flora

Funded Apr 7, 2022Thank you SO MUCH for contributing to these rewards for students. These have been an excellent end-of-year motivator for students and have proven to boost their engagement in class. I was so pleased today to see my students with their rewards and see how excited they are to share what they have gotten with their classmates.
Even at the high school level, showing students that they are properly appreciated and that their efforts can achieve reward goes a long way. We are promoting positive interaction and positive growth in class which is such an important part of learning. Thank you for contributing to our classroom in this way! PBIS rewards are game changing!
If you wish to continue supporting our classroom, we are requesting some items to help our outdoor classroom thrive. Right now, we are seeking a picnic table for our summer school STEM program that students will use for outdoor lessons. We are seeking snacks for students to enjoy during the summer school months.
Thank you again for you generosity and support!”

Ms. Flora

Funded May 3, 2022Thank you SO MUCH for helping me to provide my students with hydroponic gardens to take home. Two students were rewarded with the systems and both have already begun growing their produce from home. One of the girls has even decided to invest in additional seed pods so she and her mother can grow strawberries and lavender in their home.
I can't express enough how much these kinds of PBIS rewards mean for students like mine. Providing kids with home hydroponic systems, especially those who are interested in this kind of gardening, will help foster their love of hydroponics and gardening well into their later years. I hope these rewards will give them drive and fuel their passion for urban gardening.
We continue to need support from generous donors like yourself for our future Eco-School and Sustainability goals. Right now, we are in a crucial stage for our request for tools for our outdoor classroom. We intend to build the classroom for outdoor learning in our STEAM summer program. Please consider supporting the project Proper Tools for PBL Learning which will provide the necessary tools we need to ensure the outdoor classroom goes up in time for summer school.
Thank you again so much for all you do!”
