  • Outdoor Education: Rolling Composter

    Thank you! Your support of this really unique and interesting project is so appreciated. My students are so grateful for this new rolling composter that you provided to help us continue to grow our composting program. The impacts of these kind of important projects, especially for kids with high needs, are tremendous in our community! I am so grateful for your support as we have begun the final construction on our butterfly garden that will soon be home to many native butterfly species. We will need so much soil!

    We are really looking forward to continuing this school year in the most positive way possible. Our students and staff experienced a difficult school year last year due to teacher shortages and learning loss from the pandemic. Creating a classroom environment that is positive, supportive, respectful, and engaging is tantamount to a successful fall. We couldn't do it without the support of the Donorschoose community.

    Please consider our class for the future. Right now we are requesting a few very important things for our classroom. The most important project posted is for a new laptop to support our Social Media and Broadcasting club - this is something we are desperately in need of at the moment. We are also seeking materials for PBL projects that we have upcoming. Our future project requests include items like printers and technology for our Social Media and Broadcasting club, larger hydroponic gardens, mindfulness items, books, and basic needs.     Thank you! Your support of this really unique professional development opportunity is so appreciated. My students are so grateful for the fact that I am trying to learn Spanish, even if they sometimes tease me for my grammar and pronunciation. The impacts of these kind of warmth, care, and hunger projects, especially for kids who have recently immigrated, are tremendous in our community! I am go grateful for your support in helping me to learn a new language.

My students work diligently to create a more sustainable environment within our high school. Using a program called Eco-School, we perform rigorous sustainability audits of our school. To combat the issues we find, my Eco-School kids will grow hydroponic produce in class to support healthy lifestyles and more eco-friendly habits. They will use rainwater collection systems to purify their water. They will compost, create healthy eating initiatives, learn outdoors, and much, much more. To do this, we use a Project-Based learning teaching method. They develop leadership and public speaking skills, explore their ecological footprints, and drive their own learning. Their knowledge of their personal environmental impact has increased substantially. Supporting our classroom supports a fully student-led, student-driven environmental goal that will help to foster future generations of environmentally conscious citizens.
