Graphic Novels for Readers of All Abilities
Funded Mar 31, 2023Wow! Thank you to all of my local and far donors! This project was made possible in only a few days because of each of you! My favorite moments as an educator are when I can feel the village behind me. You are the village! Thank you, thank you, thank you! My students might think this is an April Fools' prank when I tell them today, but they will be so excited to have some wonderful books to read the week before spring break! Personally, I will be rereading the Percy Jackson series, my guilty pleasure as an early avid reader, and one I hope to share with my students! I hope you have a great weekend!”

Funded Nov 29, 2022My, oh my, are my students thrilled to be in a classroom supported by Donors Choose. They LOVE our class celebrations and leave every Friday saying how third grade is their favorite year yet. Thank you, thank you, thank you for picking my students, for picking this project. We have made so many joyous memories with these resources. My students are incredibly motivated to work together to earn our weekly celebrations and that means all of the following are increased: engagement, positive and supportive peer interactions, and mindfulness of impulse control. All of these contribute to a classroom that is ready to learn, ready to support, and ready to celebrate. I am so thankful that you picked this project to support as these materials have been so exciting for my students. I know in my heart that third grade will be a year my students will never forget. Thank you for helping me support and build positive classroom experiences!”

Funded Feb 8, 2023Thank you for supporting my students! They have adored (emphasis on adored) reading their new graphic novels. Many of them ask to bring the books to lunch or recess and animatedly talk about their favorite parts with one another. I can truly say that these books have had such a profound impact on my students falling in love with reading. They have even started trying to sneak some pages in during lessons! In fact, they are so excited that I have started taking suggestions for our next graphic novel project! The flashlights are an added bonus! We have used the flashlights on PJs days and snuggled up for some "bedtime reading" and to find and annotate text evidence. My students are thrilled to have the opportunity to spice up their reading passages. Incorporating flashlights took reading a passage and answering multiple choice questions from drab to fab and I have you to thank!!”

Funded Nov 10, 2022Since receiving the materials in this project, my students have begun taking more accountability with their mindfulness. They know a calm mind is optimal for learning and strive for this daily. It is a beautiful thing when 8 and 9 year olds can advocate for their needs and state what they need during an unregulated moment. My students frequently use the calm down corners to take a break and reset. Some students prefer the guided breathing visual, others prefer the cuddle balls, and others prefer a moment with the weighted animals. They leave the corners calmer and in a better mental state for learning. The monkey foam is a tool for regulation and a reward - the best of both worlds. My class has requested that the foam is put as an option on their wheel spin to reward fabulous choices. The items in this project have been a wonderful support for my students as they navigate the world of mindfulness. Thank you for making this project happen! Wishing you a great Friday and an even better weekend!”

Building an Emotional Intelligence Literacy Collection
Funded Dec 15, 2022Thank you so much for funding this project! My students adore a good story. I adore a story with a good message. The books in this project meet both criteria. I am so excited to help my students build their capacity for emotional intelligence. They have so many great qualities to offer and my hopes are these books will guide them to become the best versions of their 9 year-old selves. Thanks to each of you, our morning meeting stories will be exceptional! We hope you have a great weekend!”

Funded Sep 20, 2022You generosity does not go unnoticed! I am beyond grateful for your support in helping me create and deliver lessons without worrying about purchasing supplies with my own money. My students have already gone through one bottle of lotion and five boxes of tissues and it's only the fifth week of school. I know they will be thrilled when I tell them we will be stocked up for the rest of the year! The rest of the supplies (like the paper, pencils, and chart paper) will most certainly be used before the semester is over! I am so honored to be a part of the DonorsChoose community with each of you! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!”

Funded Jul 19, 2022Thank you for your support! I cannot wait to get back into my classroom so I can replace the old clipboards and unwrap the shiny, new clipboards! My upcoming class will love the mobility potential this gives their learning! Who said work has to be in a chair at a desk?! Wishing you a wonderful day!”

Funded Jan 30, 2022The materials you helped provide for my classroom were absolutely ADORED by not only my students, but students throughout the school. Our Friday class celebrations became the number one place to be and my colleagues would send their students to my classroom. My students grew day in and day out - both academically and emotionally. These materials encouraged even more collaboration, creativity, and joy in the classroom. A few students begged and bargained to do arts and crafts during their recess time. They gladly waved goodbye to free technology time in favor of spin art, slime, and dot markers. I frequently overheard students encouraging each other to make a better choice so their friends would not miss out on every minute of celebration time. Overall, I saw more excitement, engagement, and self/peer reflection after incorporating these materials. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Your support made a difference this year and I know it will continue to make a difference in the years to come!”

Creating a Conducive Learning Environment Through Comfort and Emotional Supports
Funded Sep 13, 2021Thank you for so generously supporting my students as they make incredible growth both socially and academically. When describing my ideal classroom environment, I immediately think "chill" and "soothing." The classroom furniture provided by my school is very limited with regards to seating options. However, these floor seats have made a tremendous impact in student comfort and engagement. They are used daily!
When my I unboxed and revealed the items in this project, my students could not contain their excitement! Quite a few students rushed towards me to touch and attempt to use the chairs, cuddle balls, and sensory tools. Since that day, they have been used daily by my students and even myself! Students and teachers not in my classroom have even enjoyed these! The chairs are incredibly comfortable and definitely the most popular seating option!
My students have access to these chairs at any point in the day. They are most often used while students work in partners or individually on their Chromebook as they work on iReady, our district's adaptive digital content program. Students who use the seats are more engaged and on task. I use both a wheel spinner and a plinko board to positively reinforce students who are meeting their goals throughout the day and encourage them to continue excelling. I let my students determine what rewards they want to see on the spinner and plinko board. The reward "comfy seat for the day" has consistently been an option on both of these reward systems since the chairs arrived in our classroom. My students have even chosen to keep "comfy seat for the day" over a prize box reward!
Thank you again!”

Intentionally Filling in Literacy Gaps With Revamped Classroom (part 1)
Funded Jan 29, 2022Two weeks ago, I was a bit concerned that my project would not get funded within the deadline. But, this has been an excellent reminder to trust in the Donor's Choose process and boy did the process work. Thank you to all of the dedicated Daily Kos readers who gave this project the momentum it desperately needed and so kindly donated. Thank you to my donors who stumbled upon this project and found it worthy of your generous donations. I am so grateful each of you found my classroom deserving. I cannot wait to help my students reach even higher with these materials!”
