STEM Lab
Funded Sep 29, 2022Thank you so much for making our STEM lab dream a reality! It has been so amazing bringing this space to life for our students.
Your generous donations have brought LEGO SPIKE Essential kits, designed specifically for lower elementary grades, to the hands of our students. Classes have embraced the opportunity to integrate LEGO robotics and coding into their regular curricula. One class, which you can see in the photos, coded scenes from the realistic fiction stories they wrote!
Additionally, we now have our very own 3D printer! This is also an amazing learning tool for our students. You can see one example of a class who used the printer to 3D print models of the different landforms they were learning about in Science!
So, thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for enhancing the learning of the students at PS 8!”

Scrapbooking Around the World
Funded Mar 24, 2021Thank you so much for your help enhancing the writing process for my third graders! I am so proud of the work they produced during this unit. More importantly, they were so proud of themselves!
My students worked hard and collaborated to read and gather information on countries of their choice during the research stage. Then, they crafted their very own books to teach others about their countries.
In the publishing stage, the materials you helped provide really brought these scrapbooks to life. This process allowed my students to express themselves artistically and have fun while doing it!”

Funded Nov 6, 2020I cannot thank you enough for providing my students with engaging, high-quality book sets at varying levels that meet their needs. I have been able to assign my students to book clubs, during which time they are able to experience the joy of reading together, as well as have meaningful discussions.
Even though the classroom looks different this year, my students are discovering the love of reading chapter books, regardless of the levels of texts they can access independently. From Katie Woo to Junie B. Jones to Ivy and Bean, my third graders have become engrossed in the series. Thank you for giving them that opportunity!”

Chromebook Cases and Learning Supplies
Funded Sep 9, 2020Thank you so much for helping me provide my students with their own personal supply kits for this school year. As you have probably heard, we made the switch from blended to remote learning just this week in NYC.
In the blended learning model, my students had been transporting their chromebooks to and from school on their in-person days. Because of you, they were able to take keep their computers safe in their protective cases. They have also all the materials they need to continue learning at home--post-its, glue sticks, scissors, pencils, notebooks, dry-erase markers, and more!

Blended Learning Necessities: Homework Planners and Headphones!
Funded Aug 7, 2020Thank you so much for helping me provide my students with their own personal supply kits for this school year. As you have probably heard, we made the switch from blended to remote learning just this week in NYC.
Many of my students struggle during remote learning because they don't have a quiet space to work, or the supplies and resources they do in the school building. Because of your generous donations, my students all have their own headphones with microphones to help them focus. They also have their very own supply boxes, containing everything they need to help them learn. They have been bringing their materials home every day for their online classes, and now that we are fully remote, they have what they need.

Funded Aug 17, 2019Thank you so much for your generous donations! Because of each of you, every student in my class received their own homework planner and pair of headphones!
My students and their families LOVE the planners! They help everyone stay on top of assignments and facilitate communication between the school and home. It also places a great deal of responsibility on students, allowing them to take charge of their learning and develop organizational skills that will be critical to their educational lives.
Additionally, students are using their headphones to enhance their experience using technology in the classroom. This year, each student has a chromebook. Headphones allow them to listen to books, watch videos, record and listen to one another's projects, and more!

Student Planners and Bilingual Books for my ESL Class!
Funded Jul 13, 2018Thank you so much for your generosity!! My students are loving their homework planners. It helps keep them organized as they learn to responsible for their assignments. These skills will prepare them to keep track of long-term assignments in their future educational careers. It's also a great system for parents to know the assignments and for me to communicate additional information to them!
In addition, the bilingual books have been a great resource for my Emergent Bilinguals. Particularly, my students who are still developing English language skills and reading strategies are able to read high-interest books in the native language and gain exposure to higher-level English texts.
