  • Typical Supplies for Exceptional Students

    Funded Nov 12, 2021

My students and I would like to thank you for your generous donations. We have put the project supplies to use. They were very excited to receive the packages. On the day the boxes arrived we had an unboxing and the students eyes lit up as they found more and more items that they would eventually use.

The poster boards, glue sticks, scissors, and crayons came in handy when we completed our Black History month project in February. The kids were able to express their research on their individually assigned person. They loved the opportunity to pick their own poster colors.

Thank you again for your donations. My students will be able to expand their learning experiences and truly enjoy the remainder of the year.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Farfan

  • Books: Windows Into Other Worlds

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

These books have allowed me to further cultivate my students' reading skills. Through the use of these books my students have been able to enhance their vocabulary as well. As you may know, at the end of third grade in Florida the students must take the Florida State Assessment (FSA) to move onto 4th grade. By reading these novels I am able to teach the reading skills such as main idea, sequence, character traits, theme, point of view, and many others in a fun way separate from the normal textbook stories and routine.

We have begun reading these novels whole group and discussing the events that take place in them. We will soon be working towards one of our culminating activities for the novel "The One and Only Ivan". By reading "The One and Only Ivan" not only are my students going on a fun and exciting adventure all from the comfort of their own classroom, but they are learning to distinguish their own points of view about animal captivity from that of the author and others around them. The students have loved to see how these characters develop throughout the story and are eager to read a new chapter each day.

They cannot wait to finish this book and move on to the "Lemoncello", "Crenshaw", and "Wishtree". Some students in particular love reading these novels because they have never read a novel before. They are fascinated by how many pages are in each of these books and are amazed by how much reading they have accomplished. These books have opened up new paths to further their reading in the future. They have a hunger for reaching new word counts and bigger novels.

Thank you again for the "windows into other worlds" that you have opened up for all of my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Farfan

  • Laptops to Expand Our Learning

    Funded Oct 9, 2019

To begin with, thank you again from myself and my students for your generous donations! These four laptops and headphones have been such a welcome addition to our classroom. We were in great need of more access to technology in the class because the county supplied devices are not enough. These devices have helped us get closer to having a 1-to-1 ratio of devices to students.

The students use the laptops on a daily basis to access county mandated programs. These programs have allowed them to make amazing gains in their reading and math proficiency. The students also use these laptops and headphones to complete research in class in order to complete projects. Students have also been able to build on their computer literacy by having access to typing programs and presentation programs.

Many of the students in my class do not have access to technology at home, so they were excited to have these colorful laptops now available to them. Not only are the laptops helping them academically, but they are teaching the students about responsibility as well. Students are assigned to a specific computer and have realized that they must take care of their device in order for it to last long for their use. Needless to say, these devices will allow them to express themselves in many other ways.”

    With gratitude,

  • Get Rid of the Wiggles With Flexible Seating!

    Funded Aug 26, 2019

I want to start off by thanking you yet again for your generosity. My students and I are extremely thankful for your donations that helped us purchase the flexible seating options you can see being used in our photos. From the very moment the students heard we met our goal to the day we were able to open the boxes; the students have been over the moon about your help. It means so much to us all that complete strangers to them could be so kind with their money to make a difference in their lives.

The flexible seating options are used daily in our room. The students are always eager to make their choice for the day. You can see them bouncing up and down on the balance balls or releasing their wiggles using the bouncy bands on their seats. They also enjoy using the k-motion stools and wobble cushions. The wobble cushions come in real handy when students are working in small groups around the room and want to spread out across the floor.

We hope you enjoy seeing the flexible seating options you purchased being used to help my gifted students remain focused in class. Thank you again, from the bottom of our hearts!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Farfan

By allowing for flexible seating in my class, I am giving my students the opportunity to work in areas that best suit their learning needs. My group of gifted third graders have brains and bodies that seem to be moving a mile a minute! These balance ball seats, wobble cushions, stools, and chair bands allow the students options. Not everyone can sit in the same chair the whole day and still manage to approach the task at hand with the same diligence they began with. Since my students are basically with me all day for all subjects, I want them to be able to find ways to remain focused on their assignments. I do not want them to feel confined. I want them to be free to make their own choices around the room.
