I teach First Grade in a high poverty, low income school in Nevada. Our class of 24 students are primarily English Language Learners and come with little to no English. Most do not know what books are when they arrive at school and a love of literature is fostered within the classroom. Even though their English is limited, the world of literature and reading crosses the language barrier. My students love circle time and look forward to our read alouds each and every day. I have found creative ways to bring books to life through felt boards and story mapping but our classroom is in need of a more materials to help the children succeed. As a new teacher the materials add up and I appreciate each and every donation!
