Back to School Supplies
Funded Aug 13, 2021With your generosity, I was able to provide each student with their own individual pencil box of supplies coming back to in person school after a year of virtual learning!!
On day one of school, students were able to feel safe and excited to have their own individual supplies to use during Covid. Each student received a pencil sharpener, pencils, colored pencils, erasers, crayons and more in their own pencil box. We even have tissues to use in the room during allergy season!!
Now my students have these wonderful art supplies to use during lessons. They were able to use these right away on All About Me Projects as we began our first days as a classroom community. Thank you for all our your love and support!”

Ms. Ely

Funded Aug 13, 2019Thank you for gifting my class this awesome resource. As mentioned in the project, many of my learners in third grade are below grade level. These Reading Comprehension Books allow me to work with the students in small groups and independently to find text evidence and specific text details to answer a question. This resource has helped strengthen their vocabulary. It has also given them more exposure to a variety of different passages. As a teacher, I appreciate that I can differentiate with this book based on the needs of my students.
When my students heard donors had supported our classroom they were very excited.
They felt the love of the donors when the supplies were here in time for the new school year.
Our next steps as a class is to continue to use our reading time to grow as learners and to be the best students possible. We are loving using the Daily Reading Comprehension teacher books for homework and more practice. The students are very excited when they feel confident in their abilities and we are excited to continue our learning journey this year.”

Funded Jul 24, 2018Thank you so much for this donation so our class was able to get Storyworks Jr. for our 4th grade classroom! As mentioned in the project, many of my students are below grade level in reading, so this subscription has helped us explore different text genres and gain a love for fiction and non-fiction. Each of the stories in Storyworks Jr. is leveled and has lessons available for the teacher. One new feature in the online component which we will be using more during center time now that the students are becoming more independent. One thing I really love about the magazine is it has stories on all different topics, many of which my students have never heard of--this gives us a chance to talk about new ideas, new vocabulary, and learn about places outside of our city in the past and present.
In our classroom, reading workshop always starts with a mini lesson that focuses on a specific skill/strategy. Then the lesson goes into the portion where students try out the strategy with teacher help. During their centers (reading jobs) students are able to try out the skill/strategy on their own during the Independent Practice center.”

Math? No Problem!
Funded May 24, 2018Our class cannot thank you enough for this wonderful donation!! This year we started a new district-wide math curriculum, and it has been particularly challenging for students below level in math. These math centers and activity cans have been so helpful this year to fill the missing gaps that my students have. Often times, students can become discouraged if they realize they are below level if an activity looks too young. However, these activities are fun and exciting--my students faces light up when they get to do these!!
Our school runs a before and after school intervention program now, and these resources have been so fun and engaging to use with the students in small group. These resources encourage fun, but also critical thinking--a skill they will need for the real world.
The students in my class love these materials so much, and it is exciting to know that they will benefit the classes I have in years to come as well.
Our class is going to keep working hard towards being star learners with these amazing donations!!”

Rocketing to Grade Level Reading
Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you so much for helping my students get these reading resources! They love to play these games in small groups with the teacher, and once they have the hang of them, they love the independence of being able to play with peers. One of their favorites from this is the Can Do Reading Games where they practice certain reading skills. These resources have also been great for me as a teacher, specifically the Match and Sort Language Cards because when I see a child struggling with a certain skill, I use the game to focus on the skill they need help with. This helps the student be much more engaged in the activity.
When these materials first arrived my students couldn't wait to open them. We had some students go pick up the boxes from the office and then we opened them all as a class. The excitement in their eyes made the waiting worth it!
The best part about these resources is that they will be useful for every single class I have. These resources will help my students fill in the gaps they are missing to improve their comprehension, but also allow them to work with they classmates and compete in a friendly and fun way. Thank you for your contribution to our classroom!!”

Funded Sep 5, 2017We cannot thank you enough for your generosity in donating to our TIME for Global Citizens project. We have been receiving the TIME for Kids Magazine and are now able to stay up to date on current events pertaining to the United States and other countries around the world. These magazines have been so helpful during our reading block and even during our writing block as we are working hard to become stronger readers and writers. The articles have been so helpful for teaching the fourth grade ELA standards. The students have been working on using the articles to practice summarizing , retelling, and even looking at author's purpose. We are also super excited because the next step is to begin using the online platform of TIME for Kids during our centers! Thank you for making our literacy block more fun!!”

Funded Mar 30, 2017After our project was funded, we waited excitedly for the packages to arrive! The students couldn't wait to see the new supplies and try out the different fidgets. The boxes arrived on different days, and each time we received a phone call from the main office. Students went to carefully bring the supplies to our room. They all gathered around as I opened up the boxes. The excitement was all over their faces as each new supply came out of the box! Each day we tried out the new supplies and talked about how to use the new equipment properly.
The students in my room have been using the learning stools at our guided reading/guided math table instead of normal chairs. They even love to sit there when completing regular classwork, or working in partners. The students have been working on a big literacy project, and have loved sitting on the learning stools, so they can move around while they stay focused on their work. These stools have helped keep their attention on the task at hand.
The fidgets, stress balls, and liquid timer have been the biggest hit in our classroom!! The students have learned how to hold the item in their one hand and use it to keep their hand moving, while staying focused on listening to the teacher or completing an assignment, no matter what the subject is. All of the children in my class are benefiting from the wonderful new supplies because of your generous donations. Because of all the donors, I am able to give my students a chance to tryout new methods for staying focused and a greater chance of being a successful student.”

Funded Aug 25, 2016Wow! I cannot thank my donors enough for their support with this project!! With your help, I was able to give every child an opportunity to use a balance ball or bouncy band. The look on their faces when I introduced the materials to my class was pure excitement. They all ran home and told their parents about their awesome new classroom. They have started telling other students in the school how cool their new seats are, I think in hopes that the other rooms will get some as well.
Every single day the students get to use the different types of seating to stay active while they are completing their work. We do daily reading centers, and math centers, so these flexible seats help the students stay focused on their task, so that I can focus on the small group I'm meeting with. They love to trade seats, and work together at their desks, and try out different options!
This year I have multiple students with ADHD, and these materials are a second chance for them. These children need to move their bodies all day long, which normally can be a distraction to other classmates and even the teacher. Giving them a ball to sit on or bouncy bands on their chair has given them an outlet. They can now move as much as they want without bothering anybody or making any noise. They are now engaged in their learning, and students who could not focus last year, are completing more work than ever and more importantly, taking pride in their achievements as students.
My students are taking learning into their own hands now, and are determined to be successful because they have the ability to focus past a few minutes. As a second year teacher, these materials have helped my students beyond what I can put down into words. Visitors to our room (whether other teachers, parents or school administration) are constantly impressed with my students and how they are in charge of their learning. This is a true example of how when students have the right tools, they can ALL be successful! As a teacher there is no greater reward than seeing your students love to learn and being proud of their accomplishments.”

Ms. Ely
