The Acoustic Sounds of English
Funded Oct 21, 2021Your contribution to my class has impacted the use of technology in the classroom significantly. My ESOL students are now able to use classroom computers to enhance their language acquisition skills. The online platforms that they use, such as Imagine Learning Literacy and i-Ready Reading require the use of headphones. Students need to listen, repeat, and answer questions, without the headphones they cannot do it. Therefore, your contribution and the successful completion of the project allows them to use the technology that helps them learn.
What makes this new product more exciting to them is that they can listen clearly to what they are learning. Additionally, the copy paper gave me the opportunity to help them complete graphic organizers, such as VENN Diagrams and Vocabulary worksheets that they really enjoy doing.
ESOL students are particularly eager to learn because everything for them is new. It is an opportunity to enhance their learning. They are used to using headphones so they are excited to use them every time they have a chance.
Your contribution has opened a new avenue of learning to my students and as they listen to English, they learn to appreciate the acoustic sounds of its letters.”

Learning Through Time
Funded Mar 16, 2021Returning to school after a Pandemic has proven to be a challenge. However, Time Edge has been extremely helpful as it has a wide variety of articles that keep students interested and motivated. It has also given my students the opportunity to explore new topics. For example, some of the lessons that these texts taught my students were related to Mental Health and having a well balanced mind and body relationship. My ELL students learned that it is very important to keep a stressful and anxiety free life. Since many of them are interested in sports, the article: "A Win for Mental Health," showed them that athletes need to be able to manage their mental health with their performance. My students realized that if they are not focused on the goal at hand, they can't perform to the best of their ability.
In my classroom, reading its extremely valuable. As a teacher of English Speakers of a Second Language, my goal is to make sure that my students develop and enhance their reading and reading comprehension skills. Time Edge's articles allow my ELL students to practice their reading and reading comprehension skills. Furthermore, in my classroom I use different techniques, such as choral reading and read a louds. Time Edge's online platform enhance their listening skills as they can listen to the articles. In addition, many of the articles can be translated into Spanish, which is the majorities' native language. This enables their comprehension of content, which later transfers into English.
Many of my ESOL students enjoy the new articles because they feel identify with it. With a great variety of topics to tap students' interests, Time Edge makes the students feel motivated and engaged. There were very interesting and educational articles about Hispanic Heritage that my students identify with.
Thanks to your donations, my English Language Learners have enhanced their reading, listening, and reading comprehension skills. You have made a great impact in my class.”

Discovering the World of English Through an Apple!
Funded Oct 18, 2020First, I will like to thank you for your donations and making this project a reality. In this uncertain times, our students have certainly become more and more dependent on technology to successfully complete their class assignments. As we adjust to these new dramatic changes to our classroom routines, our district have incorporated new technology platforms that have assisted in our students' learning. Some of these online learning platforms are Microsoft Teams and Edgenuity. As a result, the i-Pads that I was able to acquire thanks to your kind donations, have dramatically improved my ESOL students' performance in their Language Arts class. As clearly seen in the pictures, my students are using the i-Pads to complete their Edgenuity Mental and Emotional Health training class assignment as well as their Microsoft Teams assignments using Microsoft Word. Although the students are required to bring their electronic devices to school, many of them do not have them. Despite the district's efforts to make sure that all students get a laptop, many of them still ended up without one. My students were privileged to have these i-Pads available for them.
One of the things that my students love the most about these i-Pads is the fact that they can use it anywhere in the classroom. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, students are required to sit far apart from each other. The i-Pads are easy to move around and manageable. They can just grab it and start working right away. Additionally, they are login to the internet at fast speeds, which makes it easier for the students to start working right away and complete assignments on time. They love the fact that the wait time to login to the web is short. Additionally, the students can also view multiple web pages at the same time.
My ESOL students who have difficulties with writing essays have specially warned to this product because they can download different aps such as Grammarly and Merriam Webster's Learner Dictionary to find the meaning of new words and avoid grammatical errors. They are also specially fond because they have used the i-Pad to use Kahoot and NearPod to make their learning more interactive.
Finally, I will like once again to express my deepest gratitude and thank you for giving me the chance of enhancing my ESOL students' learning and development of their English language skills.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Elvia M. Hernandez
