  • Utilizing Technology To Reach Struggling Learners

    Funded May 22, 2013

This iPad has been a wonderful addition to our classroom. I was new to using it, so before I could even bring it into the classroom, I spent some time downloading educational apps and trying them out myself. In that way, I have found a wide variety of apps that build everything from letter identification, to content knowledge in science, and a love of reading. We have used starfall, reading rainbow, endless alphabet, and base ten to practice our skills. It has been especially helpful with students who are behind, and could use a little more practice: learning letter sounds, directionality of reading, numeral-quantity correspondence... I look forward to finding even more activities to use the ipad for. Thank you so much for making this possible!”

  • Sorting, Writing and Building for Literacy

    Funded Sep 25, 2013

What an amazing list of supporters! These magnetic boards went into use, literally the DAY I opened the box. I now have a functioning word family center, where students switch the first sound of a word family word to build a new word. In this manner, cat becomes: bat, mat, pat, etc. I am finding that they are really holding onto this skill, and it is enabling them to read new words in other books. The boards are perfect because they are dry erase, as well as magnetic, making it so that students can both move magnetic letters, as well as write the word. They are loving the independence, and I am happy to see how well they are doing. Thank you SO very much for making that possible! I wish you all the best!”

  • So Many Books, So Little Space!

    Funded Jul 23, 2013

This bookcase has been one of the best additions to my classroom yet! I knew that it would be easier to organize books and make it clear where titles belonged. What I didn't anticipate is that it would also save me space! It is so much easier for the students to browse, and the books are at their level! They love it! But now, they hardly ever touch the other books that are in the containers that I used to use! I almost need another one, now! Thank you so much for supporting my classroom. You have made our books easy, fun and clear to access. I really, really appreciate it. I wish you all the best.”

  • Pencils, Tape, Glue, And Other Basics

    Funded Mar 23, 2013

What an interesting ride it was to receive these materials. A month had gone by, with no interest in my project, and then suddenly, before I knew it, it was fulfilled. I know that was largely due to the focused fundraising of Keihl's. Thank you all so much for the part you played in bringing these resources to my classroom. You should have seen how excited the students were as I opened the box with pencils and glue. They knew we would have enough now! It was a good day. My favorite part is the pencil sharpener. It is industrial strength! 1st graders have a tendency of breaking electric pencil sharpeners, so I am crossing my fingers that this one goes the distance. Thank you all again, and may this be just the first of the projects you support. Best wishes to all!”

  • Nowhere to Sit? Nowhere to Learn!!

    Funded Feb 18, 2013

What a long list of generous friends of education! Wow! Thank you all so much for our stools! They have been perfect! We use them all day long. They stay at my guided reading table and it's perfect because they slide right under the table, saving space. It's also great because there's no back to the seat, so children sit up better, and are paying better attention. It also allows them to turn in their seat easier if they need to discuss with a neighbor, without sliding backwards in their seat. These stools have really added a lot to my classroom, and I really appreciate all of your support. May this holiday season find you all well, and surrounded by loved ones.”

  • Books, Books, Books!

    Funded Jan 1, 2013

You all helped acquire "just-right books," for my classroom: leveled books that students can read independently at their own level. We've been using them for a couple months now, and what a tool they are! They kids love being able to browse a box at their level and to choose a book that is right for them. They each have an individual "browsing box" where they keep a mixture of books that interest them from the library, books they've read with a teacher during guided reading, and these just right books. It means that they spend at least 20 minutes a day with highly engaging books at their appropriate reading level. What a treat. Most classrooms don't have many, if any, just right books because they are too expensive for schools to buy for every class. Thank you so much for making that possible for us! I think of the generosity of friends and strangers every time we use them.”

  • New Math Needs New Resources!

    Funded Dec 31, 2012

A couple months ago, you made it possible for my students to acquire math materials to help meet common core standards. The two major items we needed were magnetic boards and judy clocks. We use the clocks regularly, as first graders now need to read a clock to the hour and half hour. Having the hands-on materials makes a huge difference in helping them understand exactly how a clock works. As for the magnetic boards, we use those several times a day, for all subject areas, not just math! They are fantastic! They allow hands-on practice of the skills we are learning, without the mess and extra materials of white boards. All in all, these materials have been a huge asset for us, and you made it possible. Thank you so much!”

  • Big Books Mean Big Learning

    Funded Dec 12, 2011

I wish you could see how excited the students are to use a big book. Every day they ask to use them. They are our anchor texts for our reading lessons, and books they can browse during reading time. It is so hard to find big books that are at the right reading level, but also interesting to the students, so this collection was a needed addition to my stash. The titles are familiar, relatable, and ones the children are excited to read. Thank you for helping provide literature that my students love, and can't wait to read!”

  • Bringing Books to Life

    Funded Dec 15, 2011

Now that the year is coming to a close, I am able to see just how much every bit of your support has helped. We began the year with a lot of readers far behind where they ought to have been, and with extra pushes, we are almost all already at end-of-year benchmarks! We have reading as a big part of our day, and the kids love curling up with one of the mp3 players and choosing their favorite books to follow along. Thank you so much for being part of our success! The best part, is that I will have these to use next year, too!”

  • Printer and Binder to Make Student-Centered Materials

    Funded Apr 1, 2011

These electronics have been a tremendous asset to my classroom. Even more, now that other teachers know that I have them, I am able to share the resources with others in the school community. With the binder, I have made science notebooks, math workbooks, memory books, and published student writing. With the all in one, I have been able to scan in student work and print copies. It has been a total time saver for me, and has made me more effective as a teacher. Thank you so much for making that possible! Have a wonderful summer!”
