  • At Home Learning Kits

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

I am writing to update you on my classroom. When the project was funded, I was able to create an at-home writing kit for each student in my class! Each student received a double sided whiteboard, whiteboard marker and eraser, and a developmentally appropriate writing notebook. We set up a pick up time for students and families to pick up the kits. Seeing the look on the children's faces as they picked up their kits was priceless! They were each so excited and the families were incredibly grateful.

    Thanks again!”

Thank you SO much for your generosity! When I gave the supplies to the students and their families, all of their faces lit up with joy. Each child received his or her own writing kit filled with fun and developmentally appropriate writing supplies. Now I know that near or far, my students can succeed in writing workshop with the tools we purchased them. A little bit goes a long way during the difficult time. I am so grateful and I know this will impact my students learning. Thank you again!”

  • Supplies for Second Graders

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

Your generosity has truly made an impact on my students' lives. With your help, every single one of my second graders received a learning kit of supplies to use at home. With half of my students enrolled in fully remote learning and the other half spending much of their time at home, these kits have been crucial to their success.

In the beginning of the year I organized a socially distanced material pick up for the families. Seeing the looks of excitement and gratitude on their faces was the best feeling. Thank you for your help!”

  • Writing Kits for 2nd Graders

    Funded Aug 30, 2020

Thank you so much for you support! My students were so happy to receive the writing kits. Because of your help, each of my students has the supplies they need to be successful. The students use the dry erase markers during Zoom meetings so that I can keep them engaged and see what they are learning. The Post-its are wonderful for jotting down their thoughts while reading stories.

In the beginning of the year, many of my students did not have any materials to do writing at home. Thanks to you, they now have many writing options!

    Thanks again!”

    With gratitude,

  • Help NYC Students Navigate Blended Learning

    Funded Aug 1, 2020

I would like to thank you again for your generosity and provide an update on my wonderful second graders. Due to your help, all of my students have the materials they need for blended learning.

We began the school year with a socially-distanced materials pick-up, in which families who had chosen fully remote instruction could come by the school and collect supplies. Each student left with a baggie filled with a notebook, post-its, ipad pens, play dough, and a set of headphones. All families were incredibly grateful and the students felt excited for some at-home learning. The students who chose blended also received a baggie of materials that they use in-school and then take home each day.

With your help, we have been able to bring some normalcy to this school year. Students at-home receive developmentally appropriate instruction, that is made possible with the supplies from this project. Thank you for helping my students and families!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hill

  • Breaking Down Language Barriers in Brooklyn

    Funded Jul 17, 2016

    Dear Donors,

Already, your help has made an impact on the learning in my classroom. We have begun to implement a newly structured word work block in which the students interact with words and investigate different spellings. The materials I purchased with the money you gave has helped to make this block successful. The students are highly engaged because of the interactive nature of the word building games and they are flourishing. The hands on materials have helped my English language learners participate and be successful in a kinesthetic way, since their verbal language is still progressing. Also, the high-quality bins we purchased have made storing these materials much more accessible to the students and will allow me to use them for years to come.

As I introduce each new activity during our word work block, the students gasp and talk about how they can't wait it to try the game. I feel grateful for your contributions each time I hear this excitement about learning words. When I first unveiled our new classroom library using the bins we purchased, the students smiled and were eager to explore each bin. After looking through the library, one student even said how much easier it was to "book shop" using the new "pretty" bins.

With your help, our school year is off to a great start. As we continue to learn and grow, our needs will change. If you're interested in contributing again, please keep an eye out for my future projects.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hill

English language learners require literacy instruction that is interactive, engaging, and scaffolded. The materials I am requesting will directly benefit my students' language and literacy development. For students with no prior literacy concepts, pocket charts are useful to teach vocabulary, sentence structure, and how to read from left to right. Phonics cubes, legos, sight word activities, and spelling games are tools that will facilitate students' learning in an engaging and fun way while promoting authentic use of the English language through speaking and listening. For struggling students, Wiki sticks and word-building centers are materials that make differentiation more meaningful. To ensure that the materials are used for future classes as well, proper storage bins are also needed. Your donations will not only support the literacy development of high needs students, but help first graders acquire the academic and social language they need to be successful for years to come. My students are ready to learn English, they just need a little help!
