  • Celebrate Hispanic Heritage with Comics

    Funded Nov 14, 2024

Thank you so much for providing my students with such beautifully illustrated and wonderfully written graphic novels and comics that are representative of diverse Hispanic characters.

They were so excited to have these books added to our classroom library! The could not wait to look through them, share them with a partner, and take them home to tell their parents about them. Some of my girls in class had been in a bit of a reading slump, until they saw some of these books! They were reading together, independently, and at home. They were even sharing them with peers during their lunch time and looking up for more books by these authors that they could read.

I am so happy and proud of the way our library is growing. Thank you so much for being a part of this and allowing the representation in our books to grow as well!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ruth

  • Hip Hop Hooray!

    Funded Sep 11, 2024

Thank you so much for your support of my students and my classroom! We are all very excited to learn about the history of Hip Hop -- which is quite exciting to my students -- through the use of this graphic novel. My students love reading comic books and graphic novels, they are visual learners (as well as English Language Learners and Students With Disabilities), and enjoy making observations as they read and learn about different topics. I am so glad that we will get to delve into this book and discuss ideas and topics that are of personal importance to them.

We are really looking forward to using this book in our next mini-unit of study, where we will discuss poetry, self-expression, the use of music to raise awareness about issues in the community, as well as how Hip Hop has made such an impact on a global scale. I know we will enjoy this unit, learn so much, and be able to use the ideas and history within the book to discuss even broader issues within the safe space created in our classroom for such important discussions.

Thank you for helping make this possible for me and my students. I am truly appreciative of your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ruth

  • Purposeful Reading With Percy Jackson

    Funded Jan 19, 2024

Thank you so much for your generosity in donating these beautiful new books to my classroom. My students are besides themselves with excitement to read these novels and graphic novels. It's wonderful to see them be so enthusiastic about books!

We love Percy Jackson, and read all about his first adventure as a class. However, my students simply could not get enough of this demigod and his friends, and they have asked to read more! They are now reading independently and with partners about his many adventures. They're constantly asking about the order of the books, and which comes next, so that they may follow his journey to save the world!

I am so grateful that you chose to support my classroom and my readers. Their imaginations are running wild with mythological madness!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ruth

  • Reading & Learning From Malala

    Funded Apr 19, 2023

We are so happy that you have chosen to support reading in our classroom! My students love having a book of their own that they can annotate and take along with them to read whenever the mood strikes. We also love reading all about Malala and her journey to becoming a young world-wide advocate for education. She is such an inspiration for my young students, who are about her age when she became most outspoken about righting the unfairness in her village.

Thank you so much for helping us acquire books that inspire and encourage young minds to use their voices, to speak out against oppression, and to make a difference no matter what age!

We are excited to read these books this school year and annotate all the exciting parts!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ruth

  • Self-Portraits & Self-Expression

    Funded Apr 1, 2023

Thank you so much for helping us make our Self-Portrait Exhibit come to life in our hallway!!! My students are so excited to see their creative works of art displayed so beautifully in mats, and in a way that they can treasure long after our exhibit is taken down and their artworks are taken home (to continue to display in a more intimate setting). The students as well as the art teacher are overjoyed to see how amazing it all looks!

Art and self-expression are such an important part of our social-emotional learning. We want our students to have a creative outlet, to see themselves in a positive light, and to create empowered images that capture their essence. Thank you for helping us make that vision come true! Not only are our student-artists stopping by the display to admire their work, but so are many other students from other grades, who are curious about our projects!

We are so very grateful for your donations and your support of our class!”

  • Shake Shack & Chomp

    Funded Mar 9, 2023

Thank you for helping fund this amazing opportunity to celebrate our students' achievements and hard work at Shake Shack! The experience of getting to use our gift cards to enjoy a delicious meal downtown was incredible.

Our students worked so hard on their projects -- they chose a person of historical significance during the time of the American Revolution, identified a primary source document to examine closely, then did further research to learn more about this person and their historical experiences. With all of this knowledge, they were able to adapt the historical information to write a creative performance piece, such as a poem or monologue that would teacher others about their chosen historical figure. Clearly this was an extensive project that required effort and creativity! But our students did such an amazing job.

We had so much fun celebrating the completion of this project at Shake Shack! Thank you SO MUCH for helping us celebrate in such an exciting way!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ruth

  • Snow Day in a Mug

    Funded Dec 19, 2022

Our students school-wide have been so wonderfully warmed by this project! Our older students are reading to the younger students as they learn about keeping warm during the cold months, and then working on their drawings to personalize the mug they take home with hot cocoa, mini marshmallows, and a candy-cane spoon. It's so heart warming!

Thank you so much for helping us bring our students together in a community activity that fosters kindness, caring, empathy, creativity, and warm winter wishes!”

  • Multicultural Myth Mania

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

My students are avid readers and excited to learn about new characters and adventures. As we have delved into multicultural mythology, I wanted so much for them to have current books with modern tales that could capture their imaginations and allow them to see characters that were similar to them. I am so happy to have these wonderful stories available for my students to enjoy! They can read new adventures based on Korean, Mexican, Mayan, Cuban, and African myths, legends, and folktales! They are excited to pick up these series and read them independently or with a partner. But more than anything, they are EXCITED to read!

Thank you for making this a possibility! I love seeing my students come alive while holding books in their hands and imagining the many places they can travel to within their minds!”

  • Colorful Basic Art Supplies for Indoor Recess

    Funded Nov 27, 2022

You should see the smiling faces of all our little ones after they eat their lunch and they're able to color and make all kinds of creations with Play Doh! They are happy to create, draw, and relax as they have a little break in the midst of all the learning they are doing throughout the day. We are so grateful that you have made this possible through your generous donation!

We are all so happy to see the joy our students are able to exhibit during their recess time. They are equally excited to have a choice of crayons, markers, pastels, and moldable clay to play with!

Thank you once again for thinking of our students and supporting them at this time!”

  • Bountiful Classroom Library Baskets

    Funded Oct 18, 2022

Thank you for donating these beautiful baskets to our classroom library. It might seem like something rather commonplace to ask for, but it was something my students truly needed to have our new books in an easy to display and reach area, where they can go up and choose their books by level, genre, series, and type. It makes it easier for them to know where to go and what book they are looking for. This means we get to spend more time reading the books they love, and less time digging through piles of books.

My students love the way the classroom library looks and how functional it is. We are truly appreciative of this gift. Thank you once again for thinking of us, and making our classroom environment even more inviting to my little readers.”
