We Are STEM Makers
Funded Oct 10, 2022These resources were great for STEAM Week in our district. Teachers used these resources to create engaging lessons. From Kindergarten to Fifth Grade, students were engaged in lessons related to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. The students loved the hands-on projects created with these materials.
We even used some lessons from these resources for our Math Night. This was a hit for our students, teachers and parents. Students and teachers were able to engage parents in hands on Math lessons.”

Funded Mar 2, 2022The pandemic taught our students resilience. The books purchased through this project focuses life skills. It is so important to make real world connections with our students. These books did just that. Reading these books sparked conversations that helped students deal with being able to communicate worries and concerns and how to problem solve.
These books were perfect as many of or 5th graders are at a turning point in their lives and need extra guidance. I have witnessed students talk through problems and self regulate their feelings. When asked to explain, they related their actions to books shared from this project.”

Funded Aug 17, 2021Thank you so much for providing these books to our scholars. They are filled with rich vocabulary and have enhanced our scholar's ability to construct meaning from decontextualized language. These read alouds have sparked conversations between scholars about the text, considering ideas using new vocabulary which has improved comprehension. These text talks and read alouds have aided scholars in acquisition of new vocabulary.
Students in all grade levels are so excited after listening to these read alouds by the librarian or teacher. They have asked about checking them out to read on their own. One student even said that she planned to take one of the books home to teach her mom some new words. This project has been infectious.”

Funded Feb 19, 2021Books are the secret ingredient in learning that can turn a classroom of students into a community of passionate thinkers and readers. The depth of discussion, rigorous thinking, and joyful engagement with stories that books enable are irreplaceable as students journey from tentative readers sounding out words to confident citizens ready to take their ideas out into the world.
These books were great as we transitioned back from virtual learning to in-person learning again. Scholars have a hard time adjusting to the new norm. These books helped us to teach scholars the importance of social distancing, mask-wearing, and handwashing.
Thanks again for helping us to make these real-world connections. We are continuing to educate our scholars about being safe.”

Funded Jan 11, 2021Board books are where it's at when it comes to reading to the littles. Their thick paperboard construction makes them durable, a crucial quality as kiddos are apt to treat their books as chew toys. Their simple concepts and colorful illustrations are beneficial for early learning and development.
According to experts, intimate moments spent sharing simple board books with baby help build listening and visual skills that form the basis for independent reading later on. I used these books with our Kindergarten scholars who have never handled books. I used them to talk to our youngest scholars about book care.
The joy on the faces of these babies as they looked at these books brought joy to my heart. We are cultivating a culture of reading.”

Funded Jan 7, 2021Wow!!! This donation helped to keep our scholars engaged during March Book Madness. Since our scholars were virtual, I recorded lessons of me reading the purchased books.
The scholars could watch and listen to me read fluently. Modeling smooth reading allows scholars to hear how they should be reading. Teacher read-alouds demonstrate the power of stories. By showing students the ways that involvement with text engages us, we give them energy for learning how reading works. By showing them how to search for meaning, we introduce strategies of understanding we can reinforce in shared, guided, and independent reading. All scholars from Kindergarten to Fifth Grade had access to the videos. Scholars took comprehension test to show understanding of reading.
Thanks, again for this donation!!!!”

Funded Dec 31, 2019These new resources give students hands-on opportunities to create and explore. Our schools focus in commerce and entrepreneurship. Therefore we focus on critical thinking, collaboration, communication and creativity in all that we do. These LEGO sets are a perfect addition to our curriculum. Their use will open the windows of endless creations by our scholars.
During our STEAM Week, I introduced the LEGO Sets to our scholars. The excitement on their faces melted my heart. Many of our scholars have used basic LEGOS but nothing as high tech as the LEGO Coding Express. All the bells and whistles brought many ooos and aaas.
I hope that the use of this donation will open their minds to the many careers available in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. Again, thanks.”

Funded Sep 12, 2019Thank you again for your donation. Your donation afforded us a button maker. We used this button maker to custom make buttons to promote school pride. We watched a Youtube video to guide students to make their creations.
When the students finished watching the video, I demonstrated how to make buttons. Then the time came for them to try. The students used computers to create their designs. And oh , the joy on their faces when they had a finished product using the button maker was priceless.
We will continue to use this button maker to promote school pride and positive student behavior.”

Funded Dec 6, 2016Technology is the way of the world! We must start teaching our students as soon as they walk through our school doors. The proper use of technology opens windows of exploration and application that students would not have had an opportunity to have. Computers, cameras, tablets and headphones assist students who are more visual learners. Technology can give teachers and students great resources, new opportunities for learning, ways to collaborate and create, and save money.
Using this technology gives teachers and other faculty members the opportunity to develop the student's digital citizenship skills. It's one thing to use technology, it's a completely other thing to know how to use them correctly and responsibly.
The students received USB headphones. Our young students were very excited to have these headphones. They use them for learning websites and assessments for our Kindergarten and First Grade students. The students really enjoy having these headphones for independent learning in our computer lab.”

Seeing Is Believing!
Funded Jan 15, 2011Thank you so much for your kind and generous donation to Donors Choose in support of my class' project, "Seeing is Believing." The materials you helped to purchase were used to show my students the life cycle of a chicken, frog and butterfly. The message that "seeing is believing" was a wonderful way to show the students how a tadpole turned into a frog. The students were just amazed.
The puzzle, game and books with cassettes assisted me in creating small group stations during Science. This further allowed me to pull struggling students for more one on one while keeping the other students engaged.
I cannot express my gratitude for your generosity and willingness to give to a worthy cause. I look forward to using the products you purchased for many years to come to educate many more students. ”
