Extra, Extra! Read All About It!
Funded Jul 28, 2018being gifted these resources, has made an incredible impact in our classroom. Each morning as the students get ready for their day, many students take turns practicing their sight words. by being able to build it with letters, write them with Jody race markers, and identify them in sentences, as truly increase their knowledge and skill of simple sight words. Reviewing simple sight words allow the students writing to be readable as well as help them increase reading levels.
Each day, we start a mini lesson altogether then students practice the skill they are learning in their own box. Having some new reading books has sparked the love of reading for many students. They are super excited about the book and can't wait to transition into partner time, in order to share the amazing box with their partner. Being able to share these books has increase their social skills, there vocabulary, and their ability to describe details in a text.
Being a class full of many special ed and English language learner students, they are very fortunate and willing to take on new challenges. They work diligently and hard, to learn new things each and every day. The students push themselves to read more, understand more, write new things, and practice new skills. Each of the days we have been in school since September have helped to mold these students into the best possible version of themselves.
Having the support of other members of the community truly speaks volumes to the quote "It takes a village to raise a child". Thank you so much for supporting my students and believing in them, as I do every day.”

Edible Fuel and Classroom Materials
Funded Mar 9, 2016Dear Donors,
My students and I cannot thank you enough for your generous donation.
During state testing, my students had a variety of snacks to keep them full and read to test. They were fueled and ready to tackle any task that came their way.
When I first opened the boxes, the students were shocked at the contents. All they kept repeating was, "Are these for us?" "Someone gave us snacks?" I explained to them that they were donated as fuel to keep them going on days they may have not had enough to eat, or they need a little bit of a boost. Immediately, the kids were figuring out how they were going to divide up the snacks so that each student received an equal share.
My students were so touched by the generosity of the donors, they decided to share some of their snacks with other classrooms around the building. They would ask to pass out animal crackers or fruit snacks to other teachers whose kids looked like they needed a pick me up.
The gift of snacks and a color printer truly touched my students and our classroom as a whole.”

Tech for Teaching
Funded Jun 10, 2017I cannot begin to thank you enough for your generous gift of technology. My students are so excited about these chrome books and cannot get enough of them! They are asking to use them for every subject, even if it is only to keep a picture up on the screen as they write.
This technology is truly a blessing. Our students use it to practice math skills, play interactive learning games and to search things they want to know. Just the other day, one student said, "Ms. Diamond, for choice time today, can I please research about the Chinese Lantern Festival we read about yesterday?" How could I say no! He wanted to use his free choice time, where he could have used the computer to play games, to look up and watch videos on the festival. What a beautiful day in the teaching world it was.
Chrome books are such a wonderful tool to have. They are so versatile and certainly peek the students interest. During a reading lesson, I quickly pulled out a chrome book in a small group session and pulled up a video the students like on vowel sounds. As the video played, the students sang along. Before I knew it, the video was over, and the students were singing the song by themselves and dancing like the characters in the video. After getting back to the lesson and allowing the students to read on their own, they asked if we could use the chrome book to put on soothing music, so they could focus and calm down during reading.
We cannot find the words to express our thanks and gratitude to all of the donors who helped us gain access to such amazing tools.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Diamond
This classroom project was brought to life by Google.org and 20 other donors."A Book is a Gift You Can Open Over and Over Again."
Funded Dec 2, 2015Our class cannot thank you enough for helping to fund such an amazing project. Our classroom reading grades have soared and are continuing to climb. These books, instructional activities and games have boosted the joy and excitement in my student's lives.
Reading used to be a boring, monotonous task, due to the lack of books that interested the students. Now, it is as if the light has been ignited and reading is becoming contagious. It all started with one student reading a new book and sharing it with his friends. Reading began to spread like wildfire. All the students wanted to read the same books and were taking turns reading and passing, reading and passing.
With the addition of the Comprehension Power Pen activity, our students are now able to independently work on skills. They are able to sit and read a short but exciting passage, think about the answers and test themselves. This activity has created confidence and enthusiasm in our students. Some of the students even request that activity in the morning during transition time, in order to get themselves ready for the school day!
Using the Main Idea Bingo game, we have been able to sneak in some fun and creative ways to focus on a skill our students are struggling with. This game allows them to be engaged, excited and always thinking, as well as reading, to find the answers. Our class morale has been positively affected by these items as well. Some students, who are finding it difficult to find the main idea, are receiving voluntary help from other students who are feeling successful and confident in this area.
The supplies we received truly has meant the world to our class. Their becoming happy, confident, ambitious learners and what else could a teacher ask for? Our books are being read, our games are being played and our students are going up reading levels. Thank you.”

Ms. Diamond
