  • Popular Series Narratives

    Funded Apr 9, 2025

Thank you for your generosity, especially in such a short period of time. My students will be absolutely elated to receive, preview, and borrow these books for independent reading time. In spite of all the reading instruction teachers do, I believe that one of the greatest gifts that we can give our students, is that of wanting to read, choosing to read, and being excited about reading. Your generosity has left me speechless, and I am as excited as my students to benefit from your donations.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Dellimore

  • Back To School and Beyond!

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

Thank you for your generosity in funding my project. I am lucky to have a sink in my room and on of our earliest lessons in on handwashing. With Covid and other seasonal illnesses still circulating, it was nice to have handsoap available. The foam was an added bonus as the kids loved the texture and spent more time during the washing process than they previously did. They also washed their hands more frequently, and eventually did so without reminders from me.

Additionally, we loved the crayons and colored pencils, especially those that reflected the various skin tones. We incorporate ART into most units, and the students were absolutely enthralled to be able to draw themselves more realistically. We used them quite a bit but they were a good quality and I'll be using them with my incoming class too.

I carefully selected all the items in my request, and I am most grateful to you for helping my classroom community by fulfilling my request in full.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Dellimore

  • Desperately Need New Furniture

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

Thank you for the desks you generously provided for my class! My students enjoyed using these larger working spaces for spreading out their work, especially when publishing their stories. During the writing process, they used Google docs to create their final written pieces, or "best writing." They were able to spread their notebooks, iPads, and drafts around them, while typing. It was like watching college students in study hall!

The larger surface of the desks really allowed me to transfer the classroom from a traditional room to a sophisticated working space that better suited their needs.

Thank you for contributing to our overall improvement.”

  • Colorful Writers Need Colorful Tools

    Funded Dec 10, 2018

We were super excited to receive our writing supplies. The array of colors excites my students and encourages them to write.

My students love telling their stories and using "adult" materials gives credence to their importance. Writing with pens allows them to accept the inevitability of their mistakes and believe in the power of revision.

The beautifully- colored paper adds a atationery-like appeal to their writing and invites them to white more and to write often.

My students send I appreciate your generosity in donating to this project. Thank you for affecting our literary lives.”

  • Reading Superheroes

    Funded Nov 29, 2017

Our books have arrived and are being well-used. On a typical Monday, I introduce a reading comprehension skill such as making inferences, determining character traits, identifying character change, determining the moral, etc. Throughout the week, the students practice various taught strategies to help them strengthen that skill. This is how your donation helps! They read books on their independent reading levels, which vary by student, and get practice accessing that information on their own. I facilitate by holding reading conferences with them, around the very book they're holding. Students also borrow these books to read /reread for homework, write responses about the stories, and return them to class the next day.

By Friday, most students are independently successful with that strategy. Your donations help my kids treasure books, learn and grow as readers, writers, thinkers, and speakers. They understand that readers have voices, that we cite a text we are referring to, that we can respond in many different ways to one text! My students understand that a book can change their viewpoint, can to used to validate their thinking, and can help them understand the world around us. My generous donors, you may think you donated books, but you also donated opportunity, you donated equality, you donated self-reliance, you donated persistence. You are our superheroes.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Dellimore

My students will enjoy the variety of fiction and informational texts. They will build comprehension and fluency through reading and rereading texts that they select. They will build schema and increase their knowledge of an author's craft as they explore the commonalities within the genres they read. Additionally, they will gain self-confidence as their reading abilities / levels improve. That will then crossover into their writerly lives. The benefits are multi-faceted, and are immediate! While I read aloud to my students every day, nothing can replace access to a variety of texts at their independent reading levels. Quality books can help my students enjoy reading while gaining new experiences.
