I teach American History, Advanced American History, and African American Studies to 7th and 8th graders. Technology is a huge component of our classroom where students collaborate each day to uncover the mysteries of the past and connect them to the present. We are also a PBL classroom that uses Reading Like A Historian from Stanford University along with exploring the people, places, and ideas of what we study is a priority in order to develop critical thinking skills. Every single day in my classroom I create lesson plans to engage, inspire, and motivate my students to not only learn about the past but to evaluate all perspectives of the past, especially those who've been left out of history, in order to understand the present world we live in. I teach students to approach their learning as a historian and explorer.
