  • Accessing the World from Our Classroom!

    Funded Dec 6, 2014

A big box was delivered mid-day to our classroom and of course, it sparked the curiosity of all my students. I explained the whole process of DonorsChoose Organization and how very generous donors contributed to our project to purchase a projector. I showed students how to use the projector and taught a social studies lesson using it. I surveyed their reactions of using the projector and had them talk about their feelings about having this new technology in our classroom. They were absolutely ecstatic about being able to use the projector as our new learning tool. They could not contain their excitement about using the projector.

I am using the projector to display real life connections for the students. I am able to quickly go onto the web to give students a better comprehension of what we are learning. The real life pictures display that I am able to show in the classroom has given my students a greater appreciation and love for technology. It is so amazing to see the students become so engaged in the lesson that I am teaching. It has served as a motivating factor in having students complete their work effectively. The quality of work produced from the students have increased immensely and they are producing writing pieces, solving math problems and reading texts that they would have never imagined doing before. The students, along with myself, are enthralled with the impact this one projector had on their learning.

The projector has completely transformed the way I teach and the way my students learn. I am more confident when teaching lessons due to the fact that I know can get tapped into the world through the projector. There is always another way to show my students how to learn something. Being able to provide students with the multi-sensory approach that they desire is a gratifying vision to observe. The academic improvements that is evident in my students' progress, which is astonishing. I sincerely thank each and every one of you for being so generous to provide us with the opportunity to access the world through the projector. You have changed the lives of each and every student in my classroom and provided them with unforgettable experiences when learning. I am sincerely thankful for this opportunity to use this new technology and embed it within my teaching practices.”

    With gratitude,

  • Books Books Books!

    Funded Dec 14, 2013

I would like to thank you very much for your generous donations to my classroom. When the books arrived in my school, I explained the mission of Donorschoose.com and how we received donations from the 3 of you! My students were overwhelmed with the amount of new books we received. They were eager to start reading them.

The book sets have since been leveled so that my students know which books are appropriate for their reading level. They have been put into special bins for them to explore during independent reading time. students are able to write and share their reading responses of their selected new books with a partner during center time.

This project boosted my teaching by having an abundance of new exciting books for my children to read and for me to model with. These books allow me to actively engage my students into learning to love reading! I am so grateful to say that I have already seen improvements in my students learning due to their renewed interest in our "fancy books" as they call them. They have been able to utilize verbal skills by being able to explain to their partner or group about what they have been reading in their books. They have also been able to use many learned strategies in their book clubs discussions and book review papers, such as questioning, connecting, finding the main idea, summarizing, sequencing etc.

This project has been a huge benefit to me as a teacher, my students as life long readers and my school community and their families due to the availability of these new resources! Thank You!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Damiano

  • 2nd Grade Leaps into Reading

    Funded Jan 4, 2013

Thank you for your generous donations for our new leveled D & E reading books. Thanks to your contribution and commitment to improving literacy in my classroom, we are now able to utilize brand new leveled D & E reading books that are appropriate for the reading levels of my students. We appreciate your effort and all that you have done to ensure that more kids get educated and therefore, have a brighter future.

My goal as a teacher is to educate those kids who have never even stepped into the hallways of a school, lacking not just the money to buy appropriate educational materials for reading but also lacking the knowledge of the English Language due to most of the population of students in my school are English as a Second Language learners. With the help of donations that we receive from donors such as yourself, we were able to raise enough money to purchase level D & E sets of nonfiction and fiction books to provide the students with a whole new library of books to explore.

It is only due to the patronage of people like you that we have managed to obtain our new library of level D and E fiction and nonfiction books!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Damiano

  • Supplies for Second Grade Infusing Art

    Funded Jul 19, 2012

Dear Andrea, Felecia B and Anonymous Donors,

Words can not express the gratitude that I feel in my heart for your generosity. The art supplies that you donated have helped my students every single day. We have used them to make our assignments more colorful as well as increase the amount of creativity my students use in daily activities. The ability and option to infuse art within my student's school assignments have them gain confidence and gain their ownership over what they do. The supplies have greatly impacted the performance, motivation and morale about school with every single student in my class. I am so blessed to be able to use these supplies with every succeeding class that I encounter in my future years within my teaching career. Thank you so much for not only showing your dedication and generosity to me but also to the future of America. You have impacted my life as well as my students' lives in way that they will always remember!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Damiano

Twenty-five second grade students strive for a chance to succeed in my class everyday and escape from the reality of the low-income, high poverty environment that under-estimates their ability to become something great. My students and I are a family in which we all work together to create a successful, exciting, welcoming, student centered learning environment. My class is comprised of underprivileged, inner city children. Our class and school is the only source of stability, consistency, structure, love and care that these children experience in their daily lives. Our school is located in NYC, and unfortunately due to the community in which our school is located, we as teachers are not equipped or funded with the technology or resources to provide students with experiences and opportunities to explore people, places, events, history, and things they would normally never even dream of experiencing.
