My 1st-4th grade Lifeskills students are working on daily routines, managing emotions and developing sensory and fine motor skills. They need a printer, ink, and laminating pouches to create visuals for the classroom. They also need earmuffs, fine motor materials, and sensory objects to help them throughout their daily activities.
This project will help my special needs students have access to visuals and materials that give them the skills they need beyond the school setting. My students are more engaged in their learning when they have materials in color. The printer, ink, cardstock and laminating pouches will produce color visuals that will last throughout this year. The signs and schedules in the room, need to be portable as students go to different areas. The Velcro will be added to the back of every visual, which will allow students to move them without misplacing them. My students have a short attention span and need constant breaks where they can attend to their sensory needs by either moving around, seeing something that relaxes them, or moving their hands to calm down. The exercise discs, fidget toys and kinetic sand will be used to create a safe sensory area where the students will be able to visit until they are able to return to their learning. Students with autism are sensitive to noises. Some of my students will benefit from earmuffs to help them decrease the stimuli around them. The pencil grips will help students improve their fine motor skills which will allow them to be able to complete written assignments.
Being a new unit in a Title 1 school, the funds are not available to launch the program successfully. We will not be able to have these basic materials without your generosity. Please help us learn in our unique and special ways!
