  • Workstations to Enhance our Math Skills

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

I am incredibly grateful for your support. Since receiving the manipulatives, games, workstations, and other materials necessary for me to run my class successfully, it has made a tremendous difference in how I plan reinforcement lessons and activities.

My students were super excited when I brought the giant box into the classroom. I told them I had created a project requesting supplies to help make sure we had an exciting time learning math. They were even more shocked to learn that a complete stranger purchased the classroom goodies for us. It is not often that my students get to encounter people, such as you, who are generous and concerned about their education as well.

I currently teach math to forty-four third grade students. It has become a huge challenge to keep them engaged since the two years of virtual learning due to COVID. The math game will be used as a review for the upcoming STAAR test, as well as to prepare them for the next grade level. They absolutely love the board games. They made an instant connection with board games they have at home. They love to compete against each other. The magnetic fraction pieces were very helpful in our comparing fractions and equivalent fraction units. It brings me joy to see my students' enthusiasm when learning, and it brings me joy to know there are people in the world like you who support educators and the things we are trying to accomplish in the classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Curtis

  • Technology in the Classroom

    Funded Oct 17, 2018

I am so thankful for your support. Technology has become such a big part of education. I currently teach 42 students, and each students has a variety of computer programs to support their learning. The programs are so important because each student is able to work at their on pace on their own academic level. However, in order for the students to benefit from the program, it is recommended that they complete at least 30 minutes per day on their program. Unfortunately, not all students have Internet access at home. Since receiving out hp laptops, I have gone from a classroom with four computers to a classroom with 6 computers. The addition of the two laptops has made a huge difference in our classroom. Instead of 12 students rotating throughout the computer station, I can now rotate 18 students per day. This allows each student to have computer access at least 3 days out of the week.

The students are always super excited to go to the computer station. The laptops are always the first to fill up. They love everything about them. Amazingly, some students choose to miss recess and P.E. to stay in the classroom and work on the computer.

I am so excited about the growth I have witnessed so far. It warms my heart to know there are people out there like you who value education and support the things we are trying to accomplish in our learning environment.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Curtis

  • Reading Learning Activities: an Alternative to Worksheets

    Funded Sep 19, 2013

I cannot thank you enough for choosing our project to fund. My students love the comprehension and vocabulary resources. I use them as a workstation in my class. When students have completed all their assignments for the day, they can grab a bag and work on the activity of their choice. They are always so eager to share with me what they have learned from the packages.

I also use the packages as sponge activities for those students that arrive to school early. Believe it or not, it has improved our on-time attendance. They are all so anxious to get to class to work on a station.

I have noticed an improvement in several of my students academically. The packages are a huge help and a big deal in our classroom. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Thank you again for your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Curtis

I work at a Title I, elementary school in inner city Houston, Texas. The majority of our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. We service a large population of "at risk" students. The school funding available to the teachers at my school is minimal, so students lack additional resources needed to extend their knowledge. Technology is a huge part of student engagement. I would like to individual the learning of my students with this project. The iPad would allow them to access their Math Trainer and many other resources.
